Iv been drinking chicken broth and beef broth so I decided to make Ramen noodles. My boys had the noodles and I had the broth from it.... it was awesome..... FYI...

My husband absolutely loves the broth from Ramen. I haven't been able to tolerate the sodium in it for years. Its sooo yummy, and I can eat it, but I always feel sick after, which is a bummer. My son and husband can suck it down with no problems! So I guess I'm too scared to try it post-op. I just made Bone Broth from leftover rotisserie chicken and veggie bits 'nd pieces. So that will have to do for now!

P.s. OMFG MISO SOUP!!! My grandma is Japanese, and she made me some of the best Miso broth everrrrr! I swear it has magic powers in it because my pain goes away for a few mins when I eat it. She strains the tofu, onions, seaweed, and chives out of it before she gives It to me since I'm still on liquids only. In a week and a half I can have the tofu though and I can't wait!!!

So I keep reading about how painful drinking is after surgery. I'm curious as my surgery is less than a month out.

Does it feel like a knife when you have a sore throat. Even Water?

What is the best method immediately after. I know straws are a no no. Those small 2 oz cups. What is a tiny sip, just wet your mouth? How soon can one progress to a water bottle or should I plan to sip from those 2 oz cups a while. I bought 2 oz and 5 oz cups.

I only have the 2oz cups. They gave me 1oz cups in the hospital. Honestly, the warm Decaf herbal tea they offered me helped the most with my extremely sore throat after surgery. And then room temp water was good too. I only take a small sip of the 1 or 2oz cup, just enough to wet my tongue and allow a tiny bit to roll down the back of my throat. Now that I'm 4 days post-op, I just carry a plastic water bottle with me and take small sips from that. But I can tolerate the cold water now too. I have trouble figuring out exactly how much water I need to swallow my pain meds and protonix. Thats really the only time I feel uncomfortable.

So is your throat sore because of the anesthesia tube or because of the wls. Do they send a camera down your throat also. I'm not quite understanding what causes the pain. How many days is it painful. Does it hurt during the leak test or are we so drugged up, it's not so bad?

Sorry for hijacking the thread with my silly drinking questions but it's clearing up some fear.

My anesthesiologist told me that my throat would be sore from the breathing tube. And boy was she right. It was so sore and dry and painful. They didn't tell me they put a camera down my throat, and they explained things very well to me before and after surgery. So my Sore throat I just feeling better today (4th day post op). My body was making extra phlegm to coat my throat, which drove me crazy, since I had to hawk a bunch of louggies, and cough a lot which hurt my incisions.

I was still under anesthesia when they did the leak test, so I don't even remember it. The most pain I had after surgery was from the gas from the anesthesia. So seriously, no matter how shitty you feel after, take all the pain meds and nausea meds they will give you and MAKE SURE YOU WALK!! I walked about 5-10 laps every single hour, and it did help with the gas pains.

My surgeon recommends sips the size of a Water bottle cap. Maybe a teaspoon in size. I found that was too big the first two days and was drinking micro-sips. I'm five days out and can take a decent sized sip. It doesn't feel like a knife, it's more pressure and then I would need to burp. Any time I have too big a drink I have to burp.

Oh yes, there are two kinds of gas pains. There is the burp/fart gas pain that you are familiar with. Then the surgical gas pain feels like cramps or nerve pain in your neck/shoulder. I wouldn't have associated it with -gas- if I wasn't told ahead of time. Walking helps with both kinds of pain.

No knives! More of gassy chest bubbles for me. It gets better quickly. I'm a week and a half out and it's much better than day one.

I had a sore throat right after surgery and into the next day. Mine may have come from both being intubated and having a small hiatal hernia repair. I existed on ice chips and small sips of the melted Water. Didn't eat anything until after I was given the leak test. Had a lot of nausea, but found out it was coming from the pain medication, which I refused to take afterwards. So, all in all, I am 5 days post-op. Since going home, I only take plain Tylenol for pain and only twice a day. I'm truly blessed with my speedy recovery. My family and friends say I don't act like someone's that had surgery. Just take it one day at a time and move, walk, sit up and take small sips at a time. #feelingblessed

My daughter took me to a Japanese restaurant today. She had discovered a Soup that was awesome and wanted me to try it. Seaweed soup. It's normally just an appetizer and they give you the option of broth only, or with seaweed and mushrooms. Of course i just got the broth, but my daughter asked if they had a larger size. They brought me some in a medium sized to go cup and still only charged the regular price, $.99! It was soooooo good!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
