Post Op Food & Stomach

:ranger:Hi:

had surgery on Monday 8/13. There is no fill in my band; and i find it a bit hard to breathe deeply still but getting better every day.

i don't feel hunger at all because of all the tenderness going on inside. If I am hungry i don't know it yet.

however, i wanted to know about one particular thing. they say sip sip sip everything slowly and only like 1/2 to 1 cup of liquids per sitting.

I have been doing that -- but since i feel nothing; i wanted to know is there something that I should be feeling; since the band was placed. what i mean is: after having a fill, people say that they can tell when they have had too much;

is that supposed to be the case right after surgery (without any fill)?

thanks:notagree

Hi bandmate!

It is very unlikely that you'll be feeling anything akin to restriction once your internal swelling goes away, and no one can say how long that might take. Once your innards return to normal, you won't know there's anything new going on inside. It's only after significant adjustments have been done (in most people) that any difference is felt.

That said, you may find that you get full quicker when you get back on more-solid food, so take it very slow. I know I did, but not everyone does.

Thanks Alexandra. I've been having like 1/4 cups of soup; and a lot of different juices. I rather not venture into other things since i was told to do liquids for 2 full weeks and then mushies.

but it hurts inside and i'm not sure if its still about the operation or something that i may be doing.

Nilsa, I just wanted to wish you continued success on your post-band experience - I am going to be banded in Mexico on 8/28, but then hope to go to Drs Fielding/Ren for support and fills. I understand they do take other patients. I live in Philly so it's a trek, but I think that fills are key, and I would love the support of people who have been through the same journey. So maybe I'll see you at one of those meetings!

I wish you success on your journey!

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
