7weeks post op can I have salad?

Recommended Posts

I doubt your system can handle salad yet. I'm 9 weeks out and asked the same question around a couple weeks ago. I tried some raw carrots with hummus. Pouch didn't like the raw veggie too much. I know the hummus was okay because I've eaten it before and it was fine.

I'm quite anxious to eat salad again too, but I can wait until I know I can handle it.

Hi Everyone

I'm 7weeks post op and have moved onto soft foods, so far I've managed a slice of toast with ham. Does anyone know if I can have salad at this stage? Really struggle with what food to eat....

Have you tried any other foods? Salads can be tough to digest and fill you up without giving any Protein. You need to concentrate on Protein first. Some suggestions would be thinly sliced turkey deli meat, tuna salad , chicken salad, soft cheeses, baked fish, etc. At 7 weeks you should be able to tolerate these type of foods. If not, you might want to visit with your surgical team. Give us some ideas of what you have tried and what has or has not worked and maybe we can give you some more suggestions.

I am over a year out and still don't tolerate salad very well. I crave it and will have a little bit but it seems hard on my tummy. I would wait awhile before trying salad.< /p>

I was sleeved 4/27 and eat regular food but salad is absolutely AWFUL. I get so sick from it

Why does salad cause people to get sick?

Salad/ aka raw veggies, are hard to digest... they are harder on your digestive system than softer, cooked foods.

I'm 5 weeks out. I eat raw red peppers, yellow peppers and cukes with hummus. Not big on the salad yet. I avoid all bread, Pasta, rice, and sweets thus far. I do eat popcorn sometimes. chicken, fish, 1 egg omelet (at work). salad, like someone else said, is hard to digest and doesn't have Protein. It's always best to talk to your team. I had asked about popcorn on this site and got various remarks. Some don't eat until 6 months out. Some think it takes that long to heal inside but on my month check up, they told me I am healed and already have scar tissue forming around the incision on the inside. I told her what I was told about popcorn getting stuck in my staples and she chuckled and assured me that wouldn't happen. That's the only "bad carb" I eat and I don't eat it daily. My month check up I had dropped 29 pounds and she said I was doing great and cleared me to eat and do what I want but to make sure I try new things (food) carefully. It's amazing how many different opinions there are out there. My surgeon has been around a while and he specializes in WLS, he has a great rep so I don't question their advice.

Good things come to good people.

I was told that raw spinach was easier on the system than regular lettuces. I have eaten fresh spinach wilted in food already, and it seemed to do fine. (I don't like canned spinach at all). I am going to try the raw red bell peppers this weekend with hummus. I tried baby carrots and that didn't work too well. I think they sat like a rock in my stomach. All you can do is try and see how you feel. If it doesn't feel good, put it off again for a month or two.

I am 7 days post gastric sleeve and the one thing my doctor and dietitian wants me to avoid going back to eating is salad. Becus it expands your stomach and makes you eat more

Thank you everyone for your advice, what I have eaten so far is... Toast with hummus and ham or omelette with ham in it or mini shepherd's pie I have a very basic diet as I am just clueless as to what I can have with a bit of fish or chicken or red meat? Can I cook it with sauces or not? It's all very vague if you know what I mean...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
