So now I have killer gout!

Recommended Posts

I am 9 days post op and have been honest that I feel horrible and definitely regret this surgery. I am growing weaker everyday. I have become majorly lactose intolerant and am dancing between immodium or the runs.

My bariatric nurse is not concerned about me feeling weak. I am only worried because I can drink less Fluid today than a week ago.

Maybe too much immodium?

I now have gout that is agony. It hurts so bad. Throbbing worse every hour. But I am supposed to keep mobile to prevent dvt. So no elevating it.

I normally take allopurinol for gout. Anyone know how long taking crushed allopurinol will take to get this attack under control?

Oh, dear. Please call your bariatric team or your PCP. They know you best and can guide you.

I am soooo sorry that you are going through this right now. It will get better. I promise.

Please, post after you call your "team" and let us know how you're doing. We care. Sincerely.

Prayers going up for you.

regret this surgery - growing weaker - now have gout

@@GinaCampbell

i know GOUT is painful, terrible, no fun!!

don't know about allopurinol? effect of crushing??

i do know that crushing certain pills are not good to do, loses its effectiveness??

i DON'T know if that's true for this med

any and alll medical questions should always be addressed to your NUT/nurse/doc

your nurse is "not concerned" about you being weak????

what is her explanation?

having diarrhea can drain you mentally

(running back and forth to bathroom, feeling tired and miserable and WEAK)

more importantly it will help make you dehydrated!

are you physically unable to drink, makes you sick, vomit??

if you are basically ok, just don't feel like drinking (since you are sick)

you MUST push the fluids

you are supposed to drink 64 oz a day (eventually)

force yourself to drink

newbies should always sip slowly

you will eventually become dehydrated without drinking enough

diarrhea/dehydrates you more!!

talk to your medical team, feel better

your health issues should improve sooner than later

feeling regrets 9 days PO??

many people go through this stage

hopefully as times passes, your regrets will too

don't give up - please!!!

give the sleeve a chance to help improve your life!!!

have you tried a ready mixed btl of Protein shake??

protein is very mportant, it will help you

warning - i know where you live ;)

take care

good luck

kathy

Spoke to my bariatric nurse earlier today. As I said, they have no concerns. Just suggested I try lactose free milk. You can crush allopurinol so I got a dose in and put on my bioflow Bracelet. Both take awhile to work but I did also get some liquid painkillers in.

Got some greek yoghurt in for breakfast! Got two doses of allopurinol in too. I will never ever miss a dose again! Most painful thing ever!

i'm glad you checked into crushing the meds

this will probably be easier/help you!!!

hope this med helps you feel better sooner than later!!!

i had gout too!!!

the accidental touching of the sheet to toe is so painful

throbbing pain!!

the sleeve has been great for me these past 4 years, and the upcoming future too

you work with it, and it will work with you

i hope while your pain improves

your regrets will too

feel better, all the way around

kathy

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
