Being denied due to weight gain...

Another thing you can do is drink lots of Water. Make sure you are drinking AT LEAST 64 oz of water and even more if possible. Also, try to keep your sodium low. (Fast food and processed food is full of sodium.) If you are like me, my weight can fluctuate over several pounds, especially when I was pre-op, just because of water retention.

That's exactly what's going on with me!

@@achappex3,

Can you think of any reasons why you might have gained those 3 lbs.? Is it possible to go back to some of the diets you tried in the past, even if they only helped you lose 10-15 lbs., just to make sure you don’t gain more weight?

I tend to agree with the other, though: relax! I bet your nutritionist was just trying to make sure you’re taking this seriously. Panicking about it won’t help. It’ll just throw your hormones off and make you gain weight.

Is it possible for you to find out the requirements for surgery, including the weight requirements? Get them in writing! There’s no way it’s fair if you don’t know what the requirements are.

Good luck, and don’t worry. Just do your best!

Has this happened to anyone?

I still have 3 months (October) until I will be done with my supervised diet. However, when I had my last visit I had gained 3 pounds. My Nut made me scared and told me that if I keep gaining, they'd deny my surgery.

That of course terrified me. My reason for getting this surgery is because no matter how hard I try, I cannot lose more than 10-15 pounds before gaining them all back. I have been like this my whole life. It's gotten to the point where even my PCP thinks this is the best route for me.

I cannot afford to not be able to have this surgery.

Now before someone tells me what to do to help lose... I've literally tried everything.

-I've cut out all sodas.

-no sugary foods

-limited carb intake.

-weight watchers

-slim 4 life.

-etc.

Idk what to do. I'm scared. And just stressing over stuff I may not be able to control.

This is something that concerned me. With bloodwork done at the beginning of my 7 monthly weighins they saw my A1c was high and the doctor changed my insulin. My numbers are falling into line very well - but I gained 8 pounds in one month. I'm extremely nervous about the whole thing too. I'm now overly cautious about eating anything at all - which starts more concern going in my head.

I agree with Alex. Call your insurance pre authorization department and ask all the requirements and conditions regarding getting approved for your WLS. My surgeon actually told us to call multiple times. It's important to call the pre auth department and not the customer service number because they have more in depth information.

I'm also on my phase II/liquid diet prior to surgery and Protein shakes helped me a lot. I had increased exercise and gained a few pounds but the Protein has me losing about a pound a day and eliminated all sugary/carb cravings. Like others have said, it is not a long-term fix but it could get you by. And I also agree that you NUT doesn't know what she's talking about!

Don't stress it right now. I lost just a little during the first 3 months of my supervised weight loss then gainers back up to my starting weight in month 4. Then lost a few pounds through months 5 and 6. My insurance just didn't want you to go above your starting weight at the end of the 6 month supervised weight loss.

I know my Drs office made me sign a form stating that if I gained weight I could be denied.

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Never signed anything like that and I read everything

Before I sign lol. I was told that it COULD happen for insurance purposes. But nothing from the surgeon

Hi everyone. I have my very first appointment on June 27th for the seminar. I'm starting to feel kind of scared. Ever since I mentioned the bypass surgery it seems everyone has a death horror story to tell me. I am a type 2 diabetic, my weight is 307, and I have high blood pressure. My doctor told me this surgery would be great for me. Can people really die from this surgery? If so, why and from what?

Your situation is similar to mine as far as the health issues. Please try not to dwell on the risks - think of it more as without the surgery your health will not improve.

My primary care dr is amazingly supportive as are all the professionals I've seen for screenings. My extended family doesn't know I'm pursuing this yet - but by and large I have support from those that do know.

This is a choice you make for your future.

Good luck with the seminar!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
