Young and banded

Recommended Posts

I'm only 18 and I just got my band last week

I was just wondering if there was anyone around my age 18-25ish who has gotten the band and how the experience has been for them?

I haven't gotten the band yet, but will hopefully be banded by the end of this year. I am 18 as well and keep getting "but you're so young!", you've probably been through that too. I don't have much input though, but wish you the best. Maybe once I get mine done, we can talk!!

Hi, I alerady posted about this elsewhere but I've written a story about my experience with the lapband surgery. I'm only 22 and got myself banded when I was 20! It's been weird cause I spent my youth really overweight and didn't have friends or men who were interested. Losing all this weight and becoming young and I guess 'beautiful' (whatever that means) is reallllly weird and sometimes kind of hard. You'll have to deal with your peer group - they may be judgemental , I don't know, I don't mention it to many people though. You'll find life will change for you in ways you can't even imagine.

My story is at honkytonksonline

yeah definitely, ive gotten the "young" thing too

but my mom and i both decided it was best for me

I am an active person, but I will admit ive had trouble just making sure I only eat what is needed and not going over that really...

so this procedure was meant to help me just maintain a healthy lifestyle and be able to be more active

i dunno some people still might not agree with me getting it, but i think for me it was a great choice personally

I'm 18 (turning 19 next month). It has been the best thing i ever done in my short life, without a doubt. I don't really mind telling people about it, almost everybody knows and i'm really glad it's that way, i needed help and i got it just as simple as that... i don't have any reasons to be ashamed

I'm 21 years old and I am getting banded on Thursday. I haven't told any of my friends and I haven't decided if I will. I have told my boyfriend and my parents and they are all very supportive. It was actually my mothers idea in the beginning.

I am afraid my friends will judge me and think I "took the easy way out" because they don't understand and I am thinking for now it would be better just to keep it to myself.

I'm 23 and was banded 4 months ago. I also don't find anything shameful about it, and everyone in my life knows about it.

So far so good, I think this was a great decision, and I wish I'd known of lap-band when I was 18.. I'd have done it then!

I'm turning 23 on Thursday and was banded when I was 21. Everyone knows about it and is supportive. I am so glad I did now, when I can still have a social life and can still have fun out with my friends! No one said anything about me being too young, as it was just a necessary thing to do for my future health.

I just turned 26 and I hope to be banded very soon. I have thought about it since I was around 20. I wish I had just done it then. I think alot of people think that because we are in our 20's, we haven't had enough years to try all the diets. I have been overweight since I was about 11 and I started dieting by the time I was 13. I think 13 years of yo-yo dieting is enough. I have told my doctors and close friends that I have decided to get banded while still young so I can live a long, happy life. I have read too many posts of people my mother's age whose only regret is not doing it sooner. I refuse to live this unhappy life any longer. My weight has prevented me from ever having a partner, from job opportunities and many other things. I want a fair shot at life and I am doing it while I am young enough to enjoy it!

Damn, Nile! You look fantastic! You are an inspiration to all of us, including we old folks. :girl_hug: Seriously, you look really really good! Love the new photo too!

I am a bit younger than you, but I am around your age. I am sixteen. I have my band and have had it since I was fourteen. The band is a wonderful tool and I am glad that you are going to be able to lose the weight with such a wonderful tool. Don't be shy! I love to talk.

I'm 25 and have been banded for about 3 1/2 months now. Have lost 43 lbs out of 105 that I need to lose. I'm young but I'm already married with a kid and I decided that I don't want my kids to have a dad that's in and out of the hospital because of Diabetes and other things I could potentially develop cuz of weight.

I've started playing ball again and I'm fitting into clothing that hasn't fit in years! I'm very open about my band (I think that has to do with the fact that I'm a guy) and sometimes I feel like shouting it out from a rooftop  Anyway, good luck to all!

how long has it taken you guys to loose weight?

I'm out 3.5 weeks and im down about 20 lbs but thats only about 12 lbs after surgery...

I was loosing so much on the liquid diet and it slowed so much once I moved to mushies...9lbs on liquid and only 3 on mushies so far

did anyone else have that problem?

Yep, I even gained a few pounds once I started mushies. It's your body trying to hold on to itself because it believes you are starving it- which you are- technically. Just walk as much as possible to get exercise and just focus on healing and if you lose weight before your first fill- consider it "extra." Your fills are going to be what makes the difference! I need another one- badly- and I am still losing but only because I'm a gym rat...

You're doing great!!!! Keep it up!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
