Vegas in January, Agenda, Next Steps

Hi LBTers

We are going to Vegas January 18-19-20 2008!

Here’s the scoop.

<O:p

You get your own flight. Arrive as early as you’d like and stay as late as you wish. This is our agenda:

We are staying at Treasure Island (TI) www.treasureisland.com. You can stay there or the hotel of your choice, but the group has decided to stay there. We don’t have a block of rooms so there’s no need to ask about that. Make your own reservations.

<O:p

Friday night’s reception needs a head count, so please if you are going to come let me know by way of email or PM here on LBT. Include your guests too. That is going to cost either $20-25 per person. We’ll need to know by December 1st just how many people we are expecting. As for paying, I’m not sure if you’ll pay at the door or if we’ll make arrangements before hand. That’s yet to be determined. Really we need to have a good idea about how many of us will attend so we can make those decisions.

<O:p

The other tickets you will need to purchase on your own.

<O:p

Questions? Ask away!

<O:p

And please, regardless of your expressed interest in the past we are starting with a blank list as of right now, so let me know again if you are going.

<O:p

Only positive responses are needed.

Hey all. I just found out my company will be attending a trade show in Vegas the following week. This might be an opportunity for me to convince work to let me go and then convince my husband to let me go early. But that aside. I think you all should be able to take advantage of the discounts available for people stating they are attending the Trade conference.

Check out worldofconcrete.com

WOC 2008

I tried the link and it didn't ask for any proof that you were attending the show it just assumes if you can find the website you must be going. It also gives some instructions on how to get reduced airfare to Vegas.

One word of caution - these trade show hotel rates usually get booked FAST.

Not that I need a reason to go to Vegas :)

Me & DH normally go every beginning of February for our 'when we met'(which was in vegas) anniversary and my birthday. I might be able to convince him to go a little early next year..

That would be a lot of fun, and we've never stayed at TI.

I dont think I will be able to attend this, but for anyone that is interested I just got back from Vegas.

We stayed at TI and loved it. It was very clean the rooms were nice, especially compared to NY, NY where we stayed last time.

We also did the hoover dam/ethel m tour and found that to be really good as well.

Just make sure you all behave at the Ethel M factory. Thier chocolate is excellent.

Thanks for your response. I'm not a prude but I was actually just a little put off by TI's webpage skin pics they have plastered across the top of their site. It helps to hear your comments.

No insult to the powers that chose TI. Its just my own stupid body issues I'm still dealing with on this journey.

I know what you mean about body issues, etc. FYI about choosing TI, as a group we rated our top 6 picks and did a weighted measure with everyone's opinion. TI won.

So there wasn't ONE particular reason it got picked over any other, just overall it was preferred.

HTH. and hope to meet you in Jan.

Juli

Like I said = No complaining here. Just my own head issues. From being at Vegas Last Jan I remember thinking the front of TI looked great and was well located, combine that with Gaffer's comments as well as it being one of the more reasonably priced hotel's on the Trade Shows site I linked to before, it would have probably been my pick as well.

Though this is still all acedemic for me as husband is in NO current mood to consider this trip. Right now if I just look at him cross-eyed he threatens pulling the plug on my PS in 4 weeks. Still I'm hoping to turn him around before Christmas. I'll probably even go ahead and reserve a room online. After all, worst case, I can always cancel it later.

Hey Julie, Sandy and I are thinking about it, not sure if we will stay in hotel or pull our trailer and stay at an RV resort, we are only about 3 hrs from LV. Anyway I will let you know as soon as we can make up our minds.

Believe me the whole Sirens of TI thing is a little overblown on the website, but really I thought the hotel was pretty classy

Sounds like you guys will have a great time.

Hi folks! Just wanted to report in that I just returned from Vegas and a stay at Treasure Island. This was my 7th trip to Vegas and have stayed at a different hotel each time...from the Luxor to the Bellagio. We loved Treasure Island! It's a wonderful moderate hotel with a fabulous location. The casino is a good size -- not too big, not too small with friendly dealers. You can easily catch the tram over to the Mirage (sister hotel) next door for the REALLY big casino experience. The Venetian is right across the street and the Fashion Show Mall is across the other street. I can't imagine a better location.

We went to see Rita Rudner at Harrah's one night and she was excellent. But the absolute must see show is the Cirque de Soleil show "LOVE" based on the music of the Beatles. LOVE

Mystere, "O", or Love are all excellent 5-star-plus shows. LOVE was just soooo cool and very, very upbeat because everyone is singing along with the music and the theatre is very intimate. Just awesome!

One thing's for sure, Ghost, you can't go to Las Vegas without seeing a lot of skin everywhere!!! Even our room key had a naked lady on it (back view). There are vans that drive around town with ads to 'bring the ladies to you'...i think it's got a bedroom in the back! LOL Taxi's are carrying some ad that have 5 ladies bent over wearing thongs. Lovely. Nope...I don't recommend going to Vegas if you're easily offended.

I have seen Mystere 4 times, "O" 3 times, and Love once when we went for our wedding-- but definitely going back when we go again (hopefully this trip!!).

Mystere is good, especially if you've never seen it.. and the soundtrack- love it.

O is a lot of fun, how they do it over the Water that disappears and reappears. Music isn't as good IMO, but it's worth seeing.

But then there's LOVE. Wow. I've never had a more positive experience at a show (and I go to a lot of shows, even local ones!!). You really feel like you've been zapped back in time, and the whole audience is engulfed into the show. Feels like you need a doobie just for being there.. and by the end, you feel like you had a few :)

I really loved LOVE.. and I listen to the soundtrack all the time. It's so surreal and you can sing along (unlike the other cirque's). And there's parts where they took real recordings of the boys talking and clipped it together, and some part it's John Lennon talking and you fade into "Yesterday".. I got a little teary eyed.

Anyway, no more rambling.. it was awesome though.

We did a week of shows for our honeymoon, and we also went to Uncensored Hypnotist Anthony Cools at Paris.. if you're open-minded, that's a riot.

We went to the medieval times kind of thing (dinner & show) at Excalibur.. I believe I got food poisoning from them, and the show was hokey. Never goin' back to that one!

Lastly, we saw the Blue Man Group at Venetian.. we saw BMG when they came to our town, and it was great music and fun...so we decided to see the non-travelling in Vegas. It was set up more like a show, than a concert.. but it was still great.. and we were front row "Poncho" seats, so it was a little messy. Then they toilet paper the ENTIRE audience, which interestingly enough--is FUN.

So that's my run down of shows I have opinions on.

We met at Sahara so we stayed there a time or two, Caesar's Palace (This was my favorite, the top suites), but we get rooms at Harrah's properties for free, and we've also tried Bally's (they are NOT clean, I did not like staying there), Paris.. right by Bally's too, so I liked staying at Paris but their casino is very high-limit on weekends, so you can walk across to Bally's cheaper casinos... and Rio.. Rio is a party scene, I didn't like it all that much, but the upside is you can play slots and watch a little showgirl type show all at the same time.. and then turn around and go up the elevator to your room.
