Introducing myself ;)

My name is Jenn. When I had gastric sleeve surgery on February 29th, 2016 I weighed 329. I started my pre op diet on February 8th (weighing 349).

As of this morning I'm down to 299 lbs!! I feel so much better just losing what I have lost so far. I move better, park farther away from stores and just feel motivated.

I have a question though, what do you do for exercise? How do you move? How often? What keeps you motivated?

Thanks!!

I walk everyday 1 1/2- 2 1/2 miles. I actually start weight training this week and I'm super excited about that! I'm about 5 weeks out.

@ThatRussGirl Hi Jenn. We are pretty close in sleeve surgery dates and progress. Mine was Feb. 25. I'm Kelly. I started out at 331 and as of last Friday I was at 280. I weigh each Friday so we'll see what tomorrow brings. I had lost 16 lbs. on the pre-surgery liquid diet and the other 35 has been since surgery. Maybe we can keep in touch with our progress/questions/issues?

As for exercise, I've mostly been walking, 30 mins./day. But just last week I started a beginner Zumba class. Tonight will be my third class. I did check with my doctor first to see if it was ok. They said just as long as I take it easy and listen to my body if it's too hard, etc. The first class I took it easy and didn't do too bad. The second class I kind of forgot that I even had surgery and really got into it. Although that night I did notice my stomach muscles were a bit tender so I may have did a little too much. But it is definitely fun and it's added a different workout to my routine so that's nice. In the summer, if it ever gets warm here, I will add swimming/swim exercises as we have a pool. I also plan to get back on my bike and enjoy some bike rides outside. Eventually, I'd like to add in some small weights or some strength training. I think I have to wait until at least 12 weeks out if I remember correctly what my doctor said in the past.

Hope that helps! Look forward to hearing more from you. I'm pretty new to this site, this is my first post. But I think I can send messages directly to you by your profile. I'll have to try that next time perhaps. Take care.

That would be great! I would love to keep in touch. Got on the scale today and I'm down to 297! I stalled for almost a month :( but am now losing again. I love Zumba! I haven't been in a long time, but maybe I need to get back into it :) have a great day!

I'm 8 months out & started exercising at 6 months post op, I do light weights 2x week, bicycling every night with my kiddos for about a mile, and recently started running a mile & 1/2 on the treadmill 3x/week. I also started at 348lbs and am down to 222lbs as of this morning!! Good luck to you, and just a warning... That first bike ride is THE MOST EXHILARATING FEELING EVER!!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
