Love Life After Surgery

Recommended Posts

This may sound like a touching topic but I have always had a problem when it comes to dating. Don't get me wrong I have a daughter and I have had boyfriends in my past but no one really wanted to make a commitment. I take it because I have always been overweight.

High school I never had a prom date, actually I have never been on a date with a guy just me and him. I feel that one of my friends I have had since Jr high and he has always been here but never wanted to commit. My child father I was with him for 13 years but there was a lot of infidelity..

So like every other human being in the world as I am on my journey I would like the chance to finally go out on a date, finally settle down and feel real love, I would like the chance to finally walk down the aisle..

Give me you input on how your love life changed..

Not sure about others but for me I'm married. My husband has always told me I'm beautiful. Unfortunately I haven't felt that way in a long time. He now tells me I'm beautiful and he is proud of me. He is happy I'm going to be around longer to enjoy some grandkids. I'm in my 40’s but what I have noticed lately is ppl talk to me more. My daughter has noticed, my son's have noticed and lol mu hubby gets jealous. which is really weird but great. Enjoy but I can tell you a real man won't care about your weight, except that your healthy.

Hey you girls have it easy these days. I was dating in the late 80 ' s and in southern California. Everyone but me was a size 8 or smaller. My friends were all like 5 foot nothing and size 6. I'm like 5 foot 8 and size 13. ( when I was younger) in fact I'm almost there again.

Don't worry Kimmey...just concentrate on you....get to your goal weight and feel great about "YOU".Take care of yourself...the guys are out there. The weight is an issue for a lot of men...nobody wants to say it but a lot of guys can't handle being seen with the "fat girl".They don't all express it but hints come out in what they say....

Don't worry they are around...gain confidence and realize you are "The Prize"!

Hi Kimmy 16,

Your weight or a lack of it doesn't define you, it's the intangibles. Your favourite pastime, your quarks. The man for you doesn't care about weight and shouldn't. I have always been someone that struggled with weight, i have been an athlete and a fat person in the off season back to fat person. Never had any luck with woman, whether fit or fat, what was the problem? The problem was me or more to the point my low self esteem and lack of self confidence. 20 years ago i learned to love myself first and you will not believe what happened, i developed self confidence and a whole new world opened to me. Today i still have these confidence whether im in one of my incarnations (fat or thin) presently fat, why i'm getting bypass surgery, even when i'm overweight i am still confident.

The surgery will present a new you, but learn to love you first, then it doesn't matter, new you old you, your confidence will show through. For me theres nothing sexier then a confident woman no matter what the size.

Good luck and enjoy the journey.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
