Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

Recommended Posts

Well. We had a wonderful day at my brother's house. Lots of food, laughter and love. Then, we have the inevitable toddlers with their fingers in the door, or Mimi getting stung by a wasp. But, all in all, it was a great day. There were 32 of us there, not counting the two brand new babies. I am so fortunate to have such a large and loving family. I'm posting a few pics I've been playing with since I got home.

What beautiful pictures Leatha!

We had a great time too! Everyone noticed my weight loss and it really made me feel good. I ate more food than I planned on eating, but all in all didn't do too bad I guess. This was the first time we had a cajun Thanksgiving, and everything was so good.

Now, Leatha, that's what Thanksgiving is about...family, love, and blessings! What beautiful pics! I think you should frame that black and white one for a Christmas present. Just beautiful!

I agree! Beautiful pics. It's always so sweet to see a man hold a baby with such love and tenderness.

Yep. I love that black and white one too. It just warms my heart to see my older brothers have 'sensitive' moments. I do plan on having several printed and framed. Thank you!

Great pictures, Leatha! I love the effects you used as borders. We had a lovely day with our children and my parents and aunts. We managed to get our house together and bought a new kitchen table to boot. I am VERY happy with all the work we did on the house, but it sure tuckered me out. I'm looking forward to having company now that things are more accomodating around here. :)

AWwww Leatha! Great pics. TY for sharing them with us. You did a great job with the borders.

Our Thanks Giving was great but uneventful. No PBs Thanks Giving Day so that alone makes it a good day. We ended up having my bro-in-law over this turkey day. He's single now Leatha! And it's not the one I talked to you about before. This one is a true sweet heart. I wish you could meet him. If I was'nt already married and if he was'nt in his 50's I'de marry this cute fellow in a heart beat.

Well, TTFN ladies....gotta go to church

Betty, hope you dont mind me posting this on your thread!

We are back from the in-laws - a week at staying in N. Carolina! Over all it was a wonderful week.

MIL noticed my weight loss immediately, we just told her it was the low-carb diet. She wasnt "skinny skinny skinny" like she told me she was, she actually had put on some weight since the last time I saw her (whatever!!!).

And my secret was safe (being banded) thanks to my 3 kids. To make time go buy between bites I would get up and tend to my kids - get them more food, wipe dirty hands & faces, clean spills, etc.

So, my secret is still a secret. Noone noticed!!!!!!!!

On Thurs. night, I felt very compelled to tell my SIL - so I did. She just smiled and hugged me and told me how good I looked and then we started talking about something else. And she agreed that it was a good thing that MIL didnt know!

Anyway, just wanted to let all of you closet bandsters know that you can really REALLY keep this thing uncover if you choose to! Even during the holidays while you are camping out at the in-laws... :)

Welcome home Paula! I'm really glad everything went well. I'm even more glad your MIL noticed YOUR weightloss. That's a score for you! :D Congratulations!

Paula, I am so happy for you. I know first hand how difficult MIL's can be. You were very clever, tending to the kids and such. Way to go!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
