Doctor say can't gain any weight during 6 months nutritional visits

If I use my insurance, doctors say I can't gain any weight during nutritional visits, but I'm a PCOS patient. I've been on metformin for about 3 weeks and no progress. The pound I lost must have gained that pound plus 1.

Thinking about doing self pay instead.

Has this happened to any one?

I'm in same boat as you. I think that as long as at the end of the 6 months you are the same weight you'll be ok. Ask your Nut.

I have to call mine to see about doing a call in weight as they are 2+ hours away and my local Dr dosnt seem to know what I'm even talking about.

My insurance requirement is the same - I don't have to lose weight in the 6 month period but I absolutely cannot gain during this time. So my strategy for not gaining was to go ahead and adopt healthier eating habits now and gradually reduce my calorie intake over the 6 months. That and gradually increase exercise. The insurance company wants to see that you are commited to making a life-style change.

I would suggest talking to the nutritionist you are seeing for the monthly visits and discuss your PCOS condition and ask for suggestions about how to insure you don't gain weight during this time. Journal your food and exercise for a couple days and have the nutritionist look over that too and make suggestions.

Ok, cool. I hear some ppl saying they're losing weight on metformin, but not me. I take 500 mg twice a day.

Try making one healthy change at a time: wean yourself off of carbonation, drink more Water, eat more vegetables, tracking your food, increasing your Protein, avoiding starches, etc.

You may find that just doing those simple things will keep you from gaining more weight.

I got rid of carbonated drinks and all carbs except fruits vegetables and dairy. And increased my Protein and Water intake. I had to lose at least 60 lbs in my 6 months. Since Jan 14 I've lost 53....just by taking those things out. I would suggest what @@Inner Surfer Girl suggested. It worked for me.

Yes,

Weaning off the unhealthy choices is better for me. I started with soda. I may drink 1 or 2 a week at most.

I need to track my food. Starch and carbs is another tough spot for me.

Yes I have pcos and thyroid issues..type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea. I have taken metformin for about 4 years. I'm on the 750 extended release once a day. The metformin never helped me lose any weight but I know it has helped some. Good luck on your journey. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. the people on this board are awesome!!

I was on metformin about 12 years ago. I lost about 30 pounds over the course of a summer, but I was taking about 2000mgs a day and I changed my eating habits to only good carbs and no sugar. It was pretty easy EXCEPT by the end of the summer I was almost living in the bathroom.

I have PCOS and am on metformin, 1500 mg extended release. Have lost 11 since my initial on March 7th by cutting out most carbs and soda. I met with my nutrition program and was cautioned to be careful to not loose too much or I won't quality anymore. I can lose 38 and still be ok, hard to think that I may be able to do this amount as I've tried for years to lose. I guess the big thing for me was to get the crap food out of the house, no candy, snack cakes, crackers, chips, Pasta, all that stuff. I eat lots of meat and eggs, found some good bread for sandwiches for my lunches at work, lots of fruit and vegetables to fill in the gaps. I keep cheese and sausage on hand for snacking. Lots of Water. I rarely exercise, still have my McDonald's breakfasts a few days a week, just in moderation.

Good luck with your weight loss goals, it seems so daunting but when you feed your body fuel instead of garbage, it makes it much easier from my experience.

Inner Surfer Girl's suggestions are good ones. My program gave me an extensive list of skills to master pre-op. These included things like chewing food throughly, eating slowly, not drinking during meals, abstaining from caffeine/carbonation/smoking, exercising at least five days a week for 30 minutes, logging intake, etc. Working on those skills will help you a lot.

They also gave us a 1200 calorie eating plan to follow pre-op that focused on balanced meals, Protein first.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
