Name one thing people would be surprised to know about you

It occurred to me last night that I post alot in Rants and Raves, and I think maybe sometimes I come off as really serious and uptight and too politically correct. Then I got to thinking, boy, I bet the people on the board would be surprised to know this fact or that fact about me.

So, I thought it would be fun to post something about ourselves that people here on the board would be surprised to know. It can be one thing or more than one thing.

I'll start:

I love celebrity gossip and am addicted to tabloids and gossip Websites.

I love pop culture and love learning about fads in history as well as current.

I will admit that I mostly go to art movies, but I equally love really dumb mainstream comedies like Talladega Nights, Scary Movie, and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.

I collect anything vintage, like cookbooks from the 50's, antique clothing, and black and white photos.

Now, how about YOU?

Sometimes I think I am the only human being alive that has never seen the film "E.T."

I've fallen asleep during EVERY episode of Star Wars (and I'm old enough to have seen the original in the theater).

I was once a physician, a neuro-radiologist. When I was in my first year of a fellowship in pediatric neuroradiology I was assaulted near the hospital. I was beaten very badly and left for dead. I suffered permanent brain damage.

I went through a long, tough rehab but I'm told I am a totally different person than I was. I no longer had the drive to achieve and among other things, lost my comprehension and passion for medicine and science in general. All those years of education and I was no longer competent.

So I am very lonely. My husband died when we were in medical school. I no longer remembered my friends from school and we no longer had anything in common. My life has no meaning.

Serena, wow I wish I could give you a big hug. Talk to us! What can we do to help? We care about you!

I've never seen E.T., either.

Dear Serena,

You have been through an unimaginable experience. I am so sorry that your life has been turned upside down. You said that your life has no meaning, however, you can bring NEW meaning to your life. Think about what new things interest you and focus on bringing one smile to your face a day. Pretty soon you will have a new focus, new hobbies, and know that people care about you. You have a new chance each day to find your passion. Be angry, grieve, and then pick yourself up and find your new passions. You can do this!!!!!!! Please know that we are always here so that you can vent, share your struggles, your blessings, and even your one smile moment for the day.

My heart is with you and you will be in my prayers every day,

Cheryl

My one thing people don't know about me, I am what you get when you cross a gay alcoholic and Pollyanna. I must say it is not a bad combination!

Thank you all so much for your kindness and support. This all happened a long time ago --26 years ago. I have no memory of my assault but then the assailant was never apprehended.

Afterwards it was a bit like being overshadowed by a brilliant, talented older sibling, but the golden girl was my former self, a stranger to this mediocre, flawed Serena that now exists.

That sounds a bit melodramatic! Thanks for listening. I don't have the opportunity to talk about this except a psychotherapist. I would really be lost without her.

Sounds like fun to me. My gay friends tell me that I am like a female Oscar Wilde. :)

I am the only person between the ages of 10 and 30 who does not have a myspace or facebook page
