My surgery was at 1130 yesterday and Im home now with fairly little pain. I did just take a pain pill to completely take the edge so I can finally sleep! I was up all night doing laps in the hospital because of gas pain. Gas HURTS. I've only had Water today. 15ml every 15 minutes but each swallow causes so much gas.

Day after surgery was rough! Day three has been much better. I've been walking as much as possible to help with gas pain. I keep telling myself that this is going to be so worth it. We've got this! Keep sipping!

Home from the hospital today. Everything went very well on Monday. Unfortunately I have to be on oxygen for now because my O2 kept going down. Hopefully it will only be for a few weeks. They took me off my insulin pump, and for now they want me to just do a couple shots a day. This may completely change too.

The gas is HORRIBLE! I feel like there is a thunderstorm going on inside my system! I don't dare let go of any of it without being on the commode for fear it isn't just gas coming out ;O

Glad to here you ladies all made it to the otherside okay. I'm doing very good with liquids, and doing very good with walking around. Did any of you have to have an Upper GI test day after surgery? I did to look for leaks. Everything went well!

Looking forward to updates.

I know I'm getting in at least 48-64 oz. You do know to count everything like broth, Jello, popsicles along with water or Decaf tea/coffee toward your liquid intake right? That makes it much easier to get in the liquids.

Yeah 64 oz minimum. But thankfully counting other things goes toward that amount. It's the Protein intake I'm struggling with. Just not feeling "food" at this point. Day two was for sure the worst of them all and each day I wake up it's a little bit more tolerable. I can't wait for the moment I jump on a scale and see -15 or more!!!

Which Protein Shakes do you do? I use Premier that have 30 grams of Protein. Makes it easy to get in at least 60 grams with just 2 shakes. I also use Boost that are 16 grams. I'm not hungry at all, and the liquid is keeping me satisfied. I know the day will come when food will be a reality again, but at this point not too worried about it. Mind you doesn't mean I'm loving the broth and jello anymore!!!

How is everyone feeling today? To be honest I am a mess. My emotions have taken over and I can cry at the drop of a hat. Ugh. Talked with the surgeon and they suggested an anxiety med for a bit. Which is helping in my time of need. Hopefully it will all go away when I start to feel like wife mother human again.

I woke up today in better spirits. Still nauseous, still have pain, and still cant get all my protien/fluids in BUT I got up, took a shower, put make up on and am determined to start living my life again. Im so exhausted but am hopeful it can only get better. I also take an anxiety med... it helps a lot!

Ashlie M, I'm so sorry to hear that you have had such a bad experience with all this. I hope things improve very quickly for you.

I woke up this morning wanting my pain meds (oxycodone). I took that and some liquid tylenol and pain was more manageable. I was able to get outside and walk to the corner of the street and back with my daughter. Felt good to be outside. It is a beautiful sunshiny Northeast Ohio day today and the neighbors are out and life is going on outside the window! Big happening on my street today; a car drove through the front of a house. I live on a very quiet bedroom community cul-de-sac, and things like this just don't happen around here! So, news trucks, fire trucks from surrounding cities, SERT team and Search and Collapse Teams, along with police have been on the street all day. Can't wait for the news later.

I'm praying for all my fellow surgery peeps that everyone is feeling better. Each day brings new hope. I hope those of you who are having difficulty find some peace and healing, and a lot less pain in the week to come.

Sorry Ashlie M, I thought it was you who stated you woke up screaming. It was Amber. I hope you are doing better Amber. This surgery is a major change to our innards, and unfortunately that involves quite a bit of healing. I know the pain..I've got it too. We will get through this. Stay positive and keep looking forward. You will get to that point where the pain is less than the excitement and encouragement of the weight loss.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
