Just finished surgery yesterday

First few days are the roughest. Gas was the worst.....walk walk walk. Even at home try to walk around the house outside inside whatever walk! Also I had horrible gas pain in my left shoulder one night. Was told from experienced couple of sleevers to lay on left shoulder no matter which shoulder it's in....it works! The firsts are scary, light vomitting. I the hospital I felt it coming like 3am.....I was out of surgery at 18 hrs before.....thought I was good. Mouth watering.....I was pushing the nurse like crazy thinking dear God this is gonna hurt! Really I was fine! After that for maybe 3 days I threw up about every 6 to 8 hrs. But day 4 NOTHING like it never happened. Be patient and it takes time. I was sleeved 2/29 and everyday I learn.....you will too. Follow doctors rules because everyone is different! You got this!

Congratulations... I am just shy of 3 weeks out since surgery and I feel GREAT !!! Everyday made a big difference for me. Recovering from the surgery I listened to what my body was saying. First, I made sure that I got in the Protein and Water and everything else came second. I found Proti Diet ( concentrated flavoring) as the key for me to get in the Fluid amount and Protein requirement easily. The Proti Diet is similar to crystal light, but it has 15 grams of protein in it. So, it does double duty with helping you get in the protein and Fluid requirement.

You have had major surgery, so your body will require time to recovery. Just listen to body and give it what it needs...rest, pain medication, fluids, protein and periods of activity and you will do great.

Where did you find the proti?

I'll answer this. I was given ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates in the hospital and could buy them at my surgeon's office. I also ordered them online through Bariatric Choice. The Bariatric Pal Store might have them but I am not sure.

They were great right after surgery because I could eat them plain, undiluted or over a bit of crushed ice. Now, I can add them to my Water bottle. They are a great source of Protein on the clear phase.

Less carbs and more exercise and protein... Also understand if your working out, your probably gaining muscle and losing fat... So you may just be losing inches and the scale is stalling... Which is awesome.. Good luck

My first couple of hours out of surgery I was very lethargic and slow. This improved through out the next day and being on a drip to keep me hyrdrated and I was up and walking all the next day!

Returned home after a 2 night stay took it very slowely and had a lot of bed rest using a pillow against my stomach to sleep comfortably.

I did slow walks around my house and sipped continually on my water!

However I was completely drained and very sleep for about a week and a half.

I would say pains from gas took about 3 days to pass, and from surgery took about a week but was still slightly sore for about 2 weeks around my incisions.

Take things slowly and rest well and become best friends with your Water bottle.

@@sammielouwho,

Congratulations! I’d say the first few days to two weeks tend to be worst with respect to pain. \ They’re usually better when you can get plenty of fluids in you and hit your Protein goals starting as soon as you can after surgery.

The next hurdle is the stall that often comes at 3 weeks or so. It’s really discouraging to go through the pre-op diet and the surgery and the post-op liquid diet, only see the scale NOT MOVE! It feels really unfair and makes you want to quit…but know that it happens to SO many patients.

Congratulations on joining the WLS club. Keep us updated on how everything goes!

4 months out and down 56 since surgery 11/18/15. The first couple of days I felt like I had done 100 sit-ups. Some pain in my shoulder blades. I never had gas. By day 5 I was off all pain meds and felt great.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
