Question for the Ladies: PMS Post Gastric Sleeve...

Recommended Posts

Ladies,

I've only had my sleeve a little over 3 months, but I can't help but notice how much more painful and uncomfortable my period is and that the hormones seem to go that much more out of wack causing a very notable increase in the severity and duration of PMS symptoms. My doctors office says fat stores hormones and that loosing weight releases said hormones into the blood causing this. I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing similar and if you had any other insights into this less desirable side effect of the Gastric Sleeve... : \

Once you weight loss slows a little and you get more calories, it levels off. It is a short term thing.

I'm having the SAME problem...

I was sleeved on Jan 25th, so this is my first cycle since my procedure.
I was in fetal position all weekend and it was probably the worst cycle I've had. (and I have endometriosis to begin with... )

Congratulations on your Sleeve and the weight loss you have had already. I totally empathize on what you went through...it's been rather violent periods since Sleeving! For some reason I thought they would be lighter, but no!

Sorry but you are correct - this is normal. My first 6 months were SO BAD - I thought I was going to DIE!!!! But now at 7-8 months, the world is better. I am back to my 2-3 days normal (no more crazy heavy bleeding). Sorry to say - be patient. It gets better.

Nearly 4 months out 4th period and oh my god how heavy are my periods. Never like this before. I do hope it stops soon and goes back to how it used to be. Can anyone explain more why this happens ?

Not sure about Midol but I took Motrin during my cycle... I asked my nut before I left the hospital and she was kinda like, "I'm not saying yes- but I'm not saying no either. Take one and see how you feel and go from there"

I wanted to share that the only thing that gets me through is this gift from God called Presym PMS!! Available over the counter. No caffeine (I don't tolerate it well), just look up the reviews, beyond awesome. For irritability, bloating, pain etc, I just don't know how I would have made it through both pre symptoms and actual period without it. I go from an irritable hormone stress ball to "okay life is good" in about 20mins. And now that I have my Sleeve, only 1 tablet vrs 2 does the trick! Let me know how it works for u if you try it...: ))

Expect the unexpected. They did my sleeve surgery while I was on my cycle, and with the weight loss my usual 6-day period wound up lasting about 15-16 days. And now (1 month out) I've spotted randomly a day here and a day there, all attributable to weight loss. So just be ready.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
