Fit to Fat to Fit.

The premise of the show irritated me. Actually watching the first episode is pissing me the f*** off.

If this dude thinks gaining 60 pounds (but can still climb a rope, do pull ups and walk on his hands) is really teaching him what it feels like to be fat, have a food addiction, etc., he's a bigger assh*le than he appears. What a d:ckhead.

I'm angry.

@@LipstickLady my sentiments exactly. There is no way that this fellow will ever know what it feels like to have carried around excess weight for decades (in some cases - including mine). Feel the damage that has been done to our bodies and then turn around and jump in to exercise 3-4 hrs a day right off the bat with out suffering any joint, back and mind issues. He's never had to deal with body shaming, bullying and self deprecating internal mind sh*t. This show is as bad as biggest loser in my eyes. It's doing far more harm than good

I saw the previews and was angered. Really? You think you can feel what it feels like to live in the shoes of someone that has been obese their whole lives?

Who the hell comes up with this s#*#!

I don't have cable, but I have seen previews for it and I was annoyed too! It turns out that one of the trainers on there is from my hometown. He and his wife (both blonde and from Vero Beach, FL) are "hot sh!t" gym owners and are very well known in our community. I've always thought they were annoying. Which trainer was on tonight's show?

When he used the words disgusting and horrible about his food and commented on how "fat" he was as he pinched his 1/4 inch of skin so hard it was red, I wanted to d**k punch him.

*Note to self* Never, ever, ever, ever p!ss off LipstickLady. Nope.

I watched two episodes and I feel exactly the same! Nobody that gains the weight temporarily (just to immediately lose it) knows what it is like to out of control, lost, addicted to food, shut-in, depressed, lonely, and/or hopeless.

The premise of the show seems to be "I gained 80 pounds and lost it - look how easy it is!"

You must be angry. You kept hitting the colon and asterisk keys by mistake.

I didn't get a good vibe from the previews. Glad I never started watching it.

I have never heard of this show until this topic... I'm glad about that!

I won't watch it now, I'm too pissed just hearing about it!

So I am going to have a differing opinion here. I have only watched the 1st episode and only because I stumbled across it and was prepared to hate it. And there were definitely things I didn't like. In the beginning when the trainer was gaining weight, he was saying things to his daughter like "is daddy getting fat?" I just didn't like how he was teaching his kids about the word "fat". And I did think how he didn't really get it that he could still shimmy up a rope and do pull-ups from the rafters the first day back to working out after not doing so for 4 months. However, what I did find interesting was the relationship he built with the guy he was training. Maybe he was just acting, but he did really seem genuine in his care and desire for the guy to become healthy. So no, gaining 40 pounds in 4 months just to drop it back off quickly didn't give him a real picture of what being overweight is, but if in some small way, it gave him patience or kindness and genuinely help overweight clients, then I think there is a lot to be said for it.

My sister is uber-healthy. (She has always worked at it and isn't a nut or annoying but still healthy.) She does CrossFit, has taught fitness classes, etc. When she got pregnant with her first child, she gained 60 pounds and it took her a while to get it back off. But she said to me back then (10 years ago) that she suddenly had more understanding of the frustration overweight people face and the depression that goes along with it. With her 2nd pregnancy (8 years ago), she didn't gain as much and bounced back faster. (She was still teaching fitness classes when she was 6 months pregnant.) But she has been such a big support during my WLS journey. I'm lucky. She is 11 years younger than me and my best friend, but I think her having been through really working to get some weight off also gave her some compassion and then honestly she is proud of what I have accomplished and reminds me of that daily. :)

Just my 2 cents...

Ugh! I haven't' seen the show, but your description reminds me of this beast who gained and lost 30 pounds to "prove fat people are lazy."

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
