    Trying not to be angry

@@salmon77 I can completely relate to a mother missing the boat on being "nurturing'. VERY long story, but suffice to say, I've had to put up healthy boundaries and have realistic expectations for our relationship. While hard, the best thing I've done FOR ME, is to forgive her failings, and limit access to her in the areas of my life where she can cause emotional harm. It is a tough thing to do, and is never one and done. I do love her, and value the relationship I have with her, but as another poster said, very well I might add, that heing blood doesn't give someone free license to be toxic. Building healthy boundaries in your relationship can actually strengthen it. Good luck!

    Lets talk sausage....

Rushes into post with chest out screaming, "Hey what the heck....oh...wait....this isn't a thread bashing men? Oops, my bad, carry on." Turns around and beats a hasty retreat.....
  3. I think everyone is missing a golden opportunity here. She could go the route of the "cross-fitters" and "vegans" and tell EVERYONE, whether they want to hear about it or not.

    A Significant Milestone

From the movie made famous by those esteemed philosophers, "Bill and Ted", I only have one thing to say....GET DOWN WITH YO BAD SELF!

    MARCH SLEEVERS?

psst. Psssssssst. PSSSSSSTTTTTTT!!!! MARCH IS ALMOST HERE! Losers bench here we come.
  6. I am a week into my pre-op diet, and while the primary reason given for this 2 weeks of low carb dieting is shrinking my liver, I wonder if a secondary reason is to get "low carb flu" out of the way before surgery. Yesterday was the first day I felt normal. Headaches, ravenous hunger, exhaustion and irritability up until then. I definitely don't want to deal with that along with the pain of surgery. It has also served to get me mentally prepared for the journey ahead. This isn't an argument for a pre-op diet, just my novice personal experience thus far.

    What Is Your Biggest Fear?

Alex, Being 1 week pre-op, I'd say my biggest fear is complications from surgery, keeping me unable to return to work and provide for my family. I know the statistics, and am confident in my choice of surgeon, but as a father it is always a concern.

900 calorie diet several weeks before surgery

I'm smack dab in the middle of 2 weeks of a 900 calorie pre op diet. Couple that with no caffeine, and I can imagine I am a sweetheart right now. Definitely an adjustment, but it will be worth it. March 1st here I come!

    It just got real!

In the starting gate, pawing at the ground, waiting for the starting pistol to fire!!!!! Good luck man, today is the day! @@Valentina Your visual gave me a laugh, since "Oso" is bear in spanish, I'm picturing bear races instead of horses!
  10. Day one of my two week pre-op diet. Man, I'm excited to get this show on the road. Carb withdrawal, coupled with caffeine withdrawal, (ACK!), I am going to be a peach to be around for a few days! In the words of that esteemed and illustrious philosopher Macho Man Randy Savage.....Ooooh Yeeaaaahhhh!!!

    And so it begins.....

As long as it doesn't turn into a freaking train, I'm good with that.

    And so it begins.....

I bet. Believe it or not, this next two weeks is what I've been dreading the most. I'm not concerned about succeeding, just know I'm going to feel miserable initially. Once I'm past the first few days, I'll feel better. A lot of people who post on here mark the day they made the decision to have surgery as their turning point, for me, the day I start actively moving towards health and away from obesity is mine. That day...is TODAY! (Cue Monty Python trumpets). Thanks man!

    What's the 1st thing

What was it that guy in Vegas said when asked what he'd do if he won the lottery? Oh yeah....hookers and cocaine! Seriously, I used to teach skydiving, and really miss it. Pretty safe bet I'm going to take it back up.

D-I-S-R-E-S-P-E-C-T Find out what it means to me

It seems to me that a lot of the posts where someone becomes offended, they seem to be looking for validation and permission, as opposed to someone else's point of view. I've a life long habit of looking for validation for the decisions I've made that has led to my weight and health. "I have a poor metabolism", "It's genetic, obese is just how my family is", "There isn't enough physical activity at my job" "That cake is just SOOOO good!" etc. That habit of looking for self validation rather than objective truth can lead to defensiveness when I'm presented with an opinion that stands counter to what I wish were true. Couple that with conversations with total strangers on the other end of the "Interwebby", and I can see why it doesn't take much for some to get their proverbial "panties in a bunch", when presented with ideas that run contrary to their own.

D-I-S-R-E-S-P-E-C-T Find out what it means to me

I am deeply offended by all you F$%@@ing F$%@s! The freaking STAR WARS theme by Cantina Band/ Meco? REALLY?!? Couldn't be Carry on my Wayward son by Kansas, or something cool huh? Incidentally, did anyone else try to sing the title to this thread? I couldn't figure the timing with the added letters. How dare the OP make me feel inadequate.

You know you lost weight when

Wait, you can get short, sleeved? (Pun intended) I can deal with hair loss, having to buy new clothes, small meals, liquid diets, but I refuse to get shorter.

    Update and Picturessss! :D

Great job! Question: Did your weight loss take care of the sciatica, or have you had to have other treatments for it as well?
