For the first time since my surgery (three months) I tried going to a buffet style restaurant. I was sensible and only got broccoli, green Beans and baked fish, thinking this would work. I was so enamored by the look and smell of the steamed broccoli, that I ate it immediately, (disregardeding my training of EAT Protein FIRST). Granted, I consumed it too fast. Then I had a bite or two of green Beans. Thinking for a second and realizing I was getting that "feeling" I decided to have a few bites of fish. It stuck at the top of my tum tum. I was done. In other words, it was a disaster. I was sick for the next two hours, with fish oozing back up into my throat and making me sick. I learned a hard lesson last night. Protein first, and I'm not ready for buffet's yet, maybe ever.

Had a slice of pizza Hut thin crust Supreme a week or so ago.

Couldn't finish it. Thought I was going to hurl.

Used to love that stuff.

Doughs, pastas and breads just don't sit well on my sleeve. Don't miss them, either.

It only seems like greasy food does it, but it has to be like a combo of things. It has to be greasy and I have to eat it pretty quickly.

So basically nothing if I eat right :lol:

Rice. If I eat more than a few teaspoons (not tablespoons), it comes up about 15 minutes later.

Potatoes. See above.

Well done hamburger or steak. If it's not rare, it sits like a rock in my tummy.

bread. If it's doughy, it's not going down.

I've lost quite a few favorite foods. I used to love crab and shrimp and they just don't agree with me anymore. I try once a month to see if I can bring them back, but so far no luck. I loved grilling meats (that's why I love your bbq photos @dub) but just an ounce or two of meat feels like lead in my gut. Same is true for chicken. Luckily fish and some raw or smoked meats are still ok. eggs were tough for a while, but they are ok now. I tried a bit of pizza a while back and won't try that again for some time. Hopefully now that I passed the six month mark some of these issues will fade.

My son begged me to take him to a Breakfast buffet not too long ago.

We went and had some eggs & a grilled pork chop. Didn't finish either, but such is the case these days and I'm perfectly fine with that.

I sat there and watched little guy eat like he'd been starved for a week. It is unreal how much food he puts away when he's onto something he likes.

It his funny to me as he has a BMI of 19.

What wasn't funny was as I looked around at the patrons seated near us.....I quickly noticed how overweight we all were. My son was the only person in our section that was even remotely close to being "normal" weight. I'm talking 40-50 people here......and everyone was large.

I don't normally people watch.....but sitting in restaurants finds me filled with idle time.

After a while I was over that place and ready to scramble out of there. Seeing folks return to the food lines over and over was almost making me ill. It was a stark reminder to what life used to be like for me.

Now....I'm part of the stick & move crowd and so grateful for it. A small tasty meal and I'm done. I'd honestly rather order coffee and Water when I go to restaurants and simply sit and drink while others enjoy their meals. I"m perfectly content in doing this.

I do find myself sitting at the bars much more often when I go out to eat. I don't necessarily have drinks, but it's just much more interactive than being trapped at a table and waiting for others to eat for an hour or two. Chatting with the bartenders and other folks.....sports on televisions, etc. Much more enjoyable for me if those I'm going with don't mind.

Going on a cruise in a couple months and will be laughing inside at all the grazing that goes on. Ironically the last cruise I went on found me dead in the middle of Atkins diet. Drank like a fish in the comedy club & casino every night.....layed around the pool and hot tub all day.....ate some killer food but still lost 5 pounds on that 7-day cruise. The secret was getting up early every morning and killing it in the gym......every single morning. Seeing the sunrise across the ocean from the ocean while walking the upper deck walking trail was a great start.

Thanks. You are really doing great. Seems like it was just last week you had your surgery and now look at your progress ticker. Doing great.

Fried & greasy stuff is not good on me either.

I cannot eat tuna fish with light Mayonnaise. So, I thought perhaps it was the mayonnaise. Then I tried to eat some baked salmon and felt so sick. I think I don't do well with fish. I do very well with grilled shrimp, but the two times I have felt violently sick have been after the consumption of fish. I used to love fish. I am a bit sad.

bread (anything doughy, crisp is ok)

Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower) unless it's cooked completely

eggs make me nauseous! I've tried to eat them a few times and I feel so horrible after just a few bites...

Can't eat anything fried or any type of pork. If I eat anything fried will cause me to dump and pork will just come back up, also for some reason cold beverages really bother me but warm is ok.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
