I did pretty good yesterday. I was able to drink 2 1/2 shakes and a sf popcicle. But today when I got up, I felt terrible. Very nauseated and light headed. I've only been able to drink 1/2 of a shake today. Still. Very sore around my abdomen, especially around the largest incision, the pain goes all the way around to my back. Hope all of you are doing well :)

My doctor's office called me today to checkup. I have been doing things wrong. I have not been able to get all of my Protein so I bought a bolt house farms daily greens shake and I mixed that with the unflavored Isopure protein. The protein tastes like milk to me. No matter what. I have a very strong aversion to milk. I felt that as long as I was getting some fluids down and it was sugar free. Their recommendation was to mix the Protein Powder with Water only and syntax nectar

Did they give you a binder or manual or pamphlet? They should've! Do you already have the syntax nectar? Curious if it's truly tasteless. Hubby just bought me some yesterday to add to my broth so that there is protein in that too. Haven't tried it yet.

Was the bolthouse green drink what you meant by being wrong? You'll get into a routine soon!!! (Hugs)

Sorry you're not feeling too well today! Have you been able to walk around? I have been walking even when I've been in horrible pain (my legs and arms were so sore on day 2). Now I feel good. Oh and I'm taking all my pain meds. It just makes everything easier. Hope you get to feeling better soon!!! ????

Yes I was wrong with the bolt house drink. They gave me a binder, but I never had a problem until I got home and realized I couldn't stand the protein. They want me to mix my protein with 4 oz of pureed fruit once a day and mix my protein with milk for my second serving of protein. There aren't many options and I realize that protein is in the form of powder for now, but it's the worst for me. For now I'll stick to my liquid such as water, Jello, broth for now at least until I can eat soft meats.< /p>

Ok girlie. Puréed fruit and Protein sounds kinda thick.

If it's the milkiness that's getting you, have you considered trying to find a powder from a non-whey source? That might be be making it worse?

Are any of you having problems swallowing? I feel pain in my chest everytime I swallow. I didn't have this problem the first few days, I really just noticed it starting yesterday.

If you had a hiatal hernia, that's what it is. You have to take that hyoscyamine or whatever it's called three times daily, and take smaller sips. For me, it feels like Fluid gets stuck in a not and that's where it hurts, then it kind of funnels through. Very annoying. Mind started on day 3 when I was discharged - I was fine at the hospital because the nurses were pushing my drugs on a regular basis so I was never without it. I started slipping on taking them in time which is when I started to notice it. If you didn't have a hiatal hernia repair than I have no idea. Maybe you need to take smaller sips? I hope you figure it out.

Hello group! Well I just had the surgery performed on 1/28/16 and figured I was close enough to the 1st. My stats are male, 5'10 and my starting weight when starting the pre op diet was 306. On the day of surgery I weighed 288. It has now been over a week since surgery (day 11 today) and I now weigh 280. I was hoping to have lost more during this first week but I know I need to be patient. 8lbs is good I know but still lol. Ok, so about my experience so far. It's actually been a lot easier than I expected. I expected the pain to be horrible but it really wasn't that bad. Only one of the incisions ever really hurt and that was the one on my right abdomen. Of course, I figured it was because that's where they pulled the remainder of the stomach out. The max I would say my pain has been throughout this entire thing would be like a 4-5 and that was immediately coming out of surgery. After that, it was pretty easy sailing. I haven't had any issues keeping anything down. I know when I drink fluids to slow down if I feel like it isn't going down as smoothly as possible. Sometimes I can feel like it's going slowly when it gets to my chest area and then it goes down but this feeling lasts for literally 3 seconds at the most. I have gone to the gym once since coming out of surgery and that was like day 4. Figured I could use the extra walking since I was sort of scared of getting blood clots and walking around the house back and forth seemed odd lol. I walked for 45 minutes on the treadmill so not too shabby. So anyways, I went back to work yesterday. Pretty stationary type job with not that much walking. At this point my pain is probably at a 0. Well last night I'm watching TV while on the couch and I start laughing, which makes me start coughing and then my freaking incinsion (right abdomen of course) begins to hurt again. It seriously went from a 0 to the past 4 days or so, back to like a 3-4 when moving certain ways, getting out of bed, etc. I thought I was home free in the pain department when it came to the incisions but a stupid loud laugh/cough ruined it :( lol. I feel like I'm back to like day 2 or 3 following surgery. Once I felt the pain I was like what the heck. Then I got up and I knew that the pain was back. It's weird. So now I'm like dreading to sit out of bed, get up from the couch, etc because of it again. Oh well, I know the pain will pass soon enough and I wouldn't say it's strong enough to take the pain pills because it petty much goes away once I'm in a comfortable position. Idk, has anyone else had this issue where the pain just came back out of no where? Aside from that everything is going good. Wish everyone on here the best of luck :)

I had pain from the beginning so it wasn't 'back' for me, but I have had a little throat tickle since my op and whenever I cough it really hurts my big incision. The big incision is really the only one still sore, but yes the coughing makes it much worse!

Yes, I did gave the hiatal hernia and I'm taking the medicine that's supposed to be for spasms and the hiccups. I guess it helps a little. I just hope this feeling goes away soon because it's very annoying. Did they tell you how long this would last? I go to my 1st post op on Thursday, I'll ask them about this and how long it should last. I'm having a fairly good day today. Hope all of you are doing good too:)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
