I'm a January Sleever!

Recommended Posts

Hi! I had my sleeve done on 1-22-16. I am 5 days post op and this has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride!

I weighed 208 going in surgery and today (5 days later) I'm down to 197. Yay! ???? I'm very happy the weight is dropping but overall this entire experience has been pretty bad. Especially my time in the hospital.

The pain I experienced (like shoulder pain) was unlike any pain I read about before the procedure. ???? I was in a state of regret for 2 days crying and trying to figure out what I did to my body and wondering if I would ever be okay.

I made the decision to come home the next day. We were having a winter storm and my house was 4 hours away from the hospital. But I knew I could no longer stay in that hospital. Since I've been home I have been feeling like a new person. I'm getting my fluids in, I'm walking, and no longer feeling regret.

I'm excited about this new journey in my life and really anxious to see if my new sleeve helps with some health problems I've been dealing with in the past few years! ????

Everything you went through is 100% normal. The gas/shoulder pain is a bit**. The regret hitting around day 2 or 3 is also completely normal. You will see that you start improving day by day as you heal up and start getting in more Water and Protein. Hang in there! A couple months from now, this will be a distant memory.

Storibrown glad its getting better.

My hospital experience was good, lots of sleeping. I'm concerned cause even though I'm not hungry, I want to test the waters w food not on list. In my head I figure if it chew it to puree why not. Am I gonna make a leak if I do this you think?

Why risk it? food getting caught in your staple line is a serious problem. It can cause leaks, ulcers, and abscesses. So not worth it, in my opinion! If you watch some youtube videos of the sleeve surgery being performed and see how brutalized your stomach really is, you will understand how important it is to be gentle to it and let it fully heal.

langloi3 that is awesome weight loss! Keep up the great work! I've been at 198 for the past 3 days. I have been walking daily around the yard and even doing some light exercises with my daughter but the scale has not moved. It's okay though as long as I'm not gaining I'm sure the pounds will start dropping again. This is the first time I've been under 200lbs in about 4 years so I'm happy ????

Your stomach doesn't want to test the waters it's your brain! Lol when you get those thoughts try getting a pen and pad and write down all the reason you did this procedure and then list some goals. I found it helpful to start writing daily, weekly, monthly, 3 month goals. Give yourself something to work towards everyday. Sometimes we have to be our own cheerleaders. And have rewards for yourself!! Gosh who doesn't like a reward even if it comes from ourselves! ????

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
