I did my shopping for the pre-op diet. The reality of all of this finally hit me! My surgeon requires a two week pre-op diet of 1500 calories a day. I'm terrified that my liver won't shrink enough for surgery, so I'm doing a liquid diet the last five days before surgery. Not sure if that will make a difference or not, but at least I will be mentally prepared for a liquid diet after surgery!

Mine is on Feb 1st too!!!!

My doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet - just Clear liquids the day before and no food from midnight BUT I want to be on a mostly liquid diet so I started substituting two meals with shakes last week. Starting Monday I might do completely shakes. Not sure. He said weighing less really helps and losing weight right before helps thin out the stomach which makes for better stitching.

I'm very excited! Congratulations on getting your date!

My surgery is also Feb. 1st!!! While I'm excited and committed to my decision to have wls...I am still more than a little concerned that

1. Something will go badly in surgery and my family will suffer undue hardship and pain because I chose to have an "elective" surgery.

2. The surgery does not work for me because A---I don't really know when I'm full and when I should stop eating. B---I have not mastered how to not gobble my food but chew all my food into a mush. C---is it possible that I love food too much?

3. I lose the weight and gain it ALL+ back...AS USUAL

I have to be all in for my family and friends---Selling the sleeve as the cure to my high blood pressure being that Im allergic to many bp meds and that it runs on both sides of family. Secretly, I really dont know how this will play out. Does anyone else have similiar concerns? I know the sleeve is best for my health and I have been waiting for this day to finally come...

Good Luck everyone and let's keep in touch.

I share several of your concerns. I am worried that I won't lose the weight after surgery. I am also petrified of the Hair loss thing.. My hair is already thin and I can't afford to lose much. I may be wearing ball caps for a while.. I am determined that this will work for me and I have already started to retrain myself on my eating habits. The 1st is drawing near and we are about to start our story. ????

I was looking through some of my paperwork and see that I am supposed to be on a 1400 calorie diet 2 weeks before surgery...SURPRISE!!! I plan on starting tomorrow.

@@Adina's_Journey I totally forgot about the hair loss. It seems that I read that there are Vitamins that may help. What Vitamins (brand...type...gummies...liquid....etc) are everyone planning to take?

Our time is coming QUICK!!!! Time to get ready.

Here is my get ready list:

(What's on yours?)

1. Take before pictures and do body measurements.

2. Purchase vitamins, Protein powder, "good" groceries

3. Pack for hospital---don't forget an extension cord!!!

4. Get my hair colored

5. Make sure my house is in order

Good idea with the extension cord. I drug my bag out weeks ago...lol. I haven't done my pics and measurements yet but I do know I need to go get a pedicure before the surgery. I've never had one before and I don't want anyone laughing at my funky feet while I'm unconscious. I already have a cell and ipad charger in there, oh and some slippers for the hospital walks. I borrowed a pair of maternity pants for the trip home if I need them.

For Vitamins I found some liquids Vitamins, one for day and one for night. A friend told me that liquid vitamins have a better absorption rate than pills. Also got some liquid Tylenol, some have said they have allot of trouble swallowing the caplets. I have bought some protien powder and some protien Water. I also got some Biotin and callogen because they help improve the elasticity in skin. Might help with the loose skin some, never hurts to try.

I am going grocery shopping tomorrow for some broth and liquids for the first week or two after surgery. I'll go get my next step foods when its time. If they are here I may be too tempted to eat them while I'm on liquid stage. I didn't get this way because of my strong willpower ????

I even bought some Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner because many have said that while it didn't stop hair loss it did help grow it back a little quicker.

I am so ready for this, I am glad to have found this site. Nice to meet others going thru this as well, don't feel so alone.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
