I was banded yesterday- exactly 24 hours ago! And I must admit I am not in as much pain as I thought. Did feel sick last night but got an anti sickness injection and felt much better.

What did you all have day 1 post op? I was thinking of a peppermint tea and half a shake to start. Will that be too much? Xx

Are you on Clear Liquids or full liquids. I was on full liquids the next day after my surgery. In the hospital they gave me cream of wheat and milk for Breakfast and cream of chicken Soup, milk, and sugar free ice cream for desert

I wasn't able to drink a shake until the fourth day. Push clear fluids. Peppermint tea is probably wonderful but drink apple juice or sports drinks so you can get some nourishment.

Congratulations....This thing DOES WORK!

A word of caution....I have been here for 5 years and have noticed all too often Banders getting frustrated because they want results right away....it is adjustable, and it is a process...took me at least 3 months before the band started to do anything for me....some people more, some less.

Listening to your Dr. is key, he/she has a treatment plan for you.....

And learning the rules now helps a great deal, in the future you will need them.

@B-52. - Thank you for the positive feed back! Surgery was 12-16, have lost 16lbs, but nothing since. Starting to get frustrated. Need to remember, the band is only a tool, not the solution.

I was banded 12/31/15. And have the worst shoulder pain. I thought my gas pains were leaving but seem to be back. It hurts so bad really starting to regret it.

I dunno if what I am doing wrong... :(

@@windysample try walking more! The first time that I had my lap band surgery in 2009, I had a lot of gas pain in my shoulder... I felt like I was being stabbed in my shoulder! I tried to gasex strips did all of that, it did eventually go away.

However this time, having my band put back in finally, I was walking a lot the day I had surgery, a lot every single day after that... Not that I was walking fast, but I had Friend take me to Walmart or the grocery store just so I could walk around holding on to a cart. For me that was key, because you can go as slow as you need to, you can stop when you need to, but the more walking you do the faster the gas actually dissipates. Don't stress yourself, and trying not to get frustrated... Because it will go away.

@@Jenny Kile I was the same way after my first surgery as well. My doctor at the time did tell me that being a lap band I would see a big difference in the scale the first week 2 week and a half, and then I don't want to say it stop, but it definitely slows down. Your band isn't put in with a fill, so as you start healing you will have a little bit of restriction, but you're going to start feeling hungry you're going to be able to eat a lot more than you think.

Once you get your first feel, that's when you really start feeling restriction. And yes it is different for everybody... One of the girls I had surgery around the same time as, she needed one fill in was good for almost 6 months, where my first fill back in 2009 I was good for two weeks and then I already needed another fill.

Having my band finally put back in 2 weeks ago, my surgeon this time already has me on solid food and my first feel is on January 20th. The only reason he's comfortable doing that is because I did have a band for two and a half years and I know what it feels like to have restriction, I know what it feels like to feel full, & I know what it feels like to be stuck. I'm really excited for their first fill, and to see what kind of results I get this time. I know that the band I have this time is a different type, and its smaller. Last time I had a 14 CC band, & I believe this time it's a 10 CC band, so that alone should affect how I feel... Plus last time I had my surgery I was living in New York, and when I moved here to Vegas the my band was actually a lot tighter because of the altitude. So that actually makes me excited for this first though because I feel like I'm going to get really good restriction :-)

Either way guys, try your hardest not to get frustrated... Yes it's a tool, yes it's different for everybody, and you will have to try for yourself to see what foods are going to work for you.

Good luck to you guys! :-) :-) and please let me know if you have any other questions as you get started with foods and phyls... I think that's why I was so successful the first time and why I know I will be even more successful this time that is permanently inside me, because of the very first support group that I had... Yes we shared stories with each other and we shared what works for each of us, but it was literally different for every single one of us, and knowing that it's truly just trial and error for everybody and you will be different than the person next to you who has it, just know that you will absolutely figure out everything for yourself... And when you use the band as a tool the way it's supposed to be, which everybody in here sounds like they know that's exactly how you use it, you'll be very successful :-)

I was banded 11/9/15. I had lost 25 lbs presurg and then between fills 1 and 2, I gained back 6. Fill 2 was three days ago and I am down 7. Bad bad decisions over the holidays made me pick that stupid 6 lbs back up. I was so frustrated about gaining weight and thinking my band wasn't working that I just ate and ate. And ate the wrong food. Restriction does help but this weight gain was my fault and my fault alone. Now that I have finally conquered the "blame", I am feeling much more confident about this journey. Hopefully this feeling lasts. Good luck everyone.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
