One year out - can I still lose?

I hoped to lose 100pounds when I had my surgery last November. I've lost right at 50, and I've been in a stall for a few months with no weight loss.

Am I just done? Can I still lose? I was told you lost what you're going to lose in the first year. Is that true?

I am sure it is possible to lose more weight. It just may take longer the closer you get to goal.

Have you met with your NUT recently to talk about your goals?

Are you following your program?

Are you tracking your food? Getting in all of your Protein and fluids every day? Taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed? Exercising?

Without knowing what you are doing now then it is impossible to predict whether or not you can reach your goal by continuing to do what you are doing now. Does that make sense?

I believe the easy work of losing happens in the honeymoon period typically thought of as that first year. However you can still lose. Depending on how you work it, it made be at a slightly slower rate, but you can still lose.

Like the gals said above, you just gotta keep at it. Evaluate what you're doing and make some adjustments to continue to lose. Make sure you haven't let some bad habits slip back in that are keeping you from losing. The first 6 months or so, losing happens automatically. As time goes by, our bodies adjust and weight loss may stall or slow down. That's when it's time to kick it into gear and help things along!

I've really gotten discouraged with such a long stall, and let myself slide on the good habits. Time to get back with the program, and step up the exercise!

You can do this!!!

Time for a little tough love but only because I want you to have epic success! This isn't a stall, this is not following the program. A stall is when you are on program but the scale doesn't immediately reward you.

I am 4 years post op. It took me 14 months to lose 150#- I had to "restart" my program at around 8-9 months and was losing just as well then as I was during the "honeymoon."

Heck, I regained 10 and lost it this fall, so I don't think it ever expires!

I recommend going back to what worked before as a good start. My body loses weight best when I go low carb and high intensity exercise but I know that isn't for everybody. Keep seeking support and most importantly NEVER give up. Even for peeps who get to goal, it can be work to stay there! Best I can tell what works is persistence.

Whether or not you're done losing weight is up to you not the sleeve! You got this! I'm 3 years out. Last year I was in nursing school and gained 15 pounds....... yikes!!!! After I graduated, I got back to eating Protein and veggies only, drinking 64 oz of Water daily, and hitting up the gym 3-4 days a week. Those 15 pounds left in just 2 months and they are never coming back!!

I loved reading the posts here as fir the first time since my surgery 8 months ago, I logged a 4 pound gain (over Thanksgiving). I have been a bit deflated since but logically I know I just need to get back on track.

It's absolutely possible to lose beyond your first year. Your body might just be getting "used to" what your doing. Or you may have let some old habits slip back in. May need to "mix up" your food and work out routine. Or get back to basics of Water, Protein, exercise, very low carb. Your body doesn't have a concept of months, so there is nothing magical that happens at 1 year. In theory, it just because harder to lose as the numbers get smaller and as your body becomes accustomed to the new "normal."

You can always lose more weight. You could lose weight without surgery. What's stopping you? Are you following the program? Hang in there.

Of course you can lose weight a year out from surgery. Or two. Or three. Or five.

It depends on what you're eating / how much you're exercising / whether you're exercising the behaviors you were taught to use pre-op.

I'm so glad I read the advice on here. I'm feeling a little down because I do Water aerobics for 60 minutes, jog in the water for 30 minutes and do 100 sit ups Monday to Friday and I'm at a stall for the last month. I've lost 98lbs since I had surgery on 4/29/15. I really push myself and I don't get on the scale a lot but when I do I want to see weight lost. I figured all of the work I'm putting in I would see a difference. I'm not going to give up. I'm just glad I got on here and read what people were saying. So thanks everyone

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
