Sleeve failure?

@@M&S yes. very common (stalls) and like said here.....like lovers they will come and go and there's probably another (stall) in your future :)

After reading here and there from other sleevers, I was asking if it were as common as it appears. Trying to prepare myself. I'm two weeks out and down about 13 pounds. Walking a lot and starting with puréed foods now.

Stalls are common, true sleeve failure is rare. Often when people say their sleeved failed, they did not follow the program. These are the ones who ate around their sleeve, ate the wrong thing or gave into head hunger. You often see post from them along the lines of "I don't eat all my Protein.", "I cheated a little here and there.", "I don't get in all my fluids."

The sleeve is a tool designed to make losing easier, but you are still responsible for putting in the work.

I think once again you're taking things personally. Wasn't intended that way in the least. I'm glad you don't like the thought of failing is what I meant. I'm two weeks out and have read there are people who feel like the surgery didn't work for them. So far my surgery and my willingness to follow my diet and exercise plan as worked out pretty well. I just stepped on the scales and from the day before surgery to now I'm down right at 15 pounds. This is in response to my "glad you don't like it" comment.

If you've lost 13-15 lbs in two weeks that is definitely what I would call success. Just stay on track and make the most of it. I am in the 12 lbs per month phase now and feel like I'm not as successful as I was then (where you are now). But I just saw my doctor on Friday and he said that I'm right where I'm supposed to be????

I don't like the term "sleeve failure".

The sleeve doesn't fail us. We fail the sleeve.

HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT!

We are supposed to be becoming a society where we are not responsible for our own actions.

I actually don't understand this topic. Granted it has been four years so maybe my memory fades, but I pretty much knew what to expect and it pretty much worked that way. I dont understand how people can declare failure when they have only just begun.

I get hungry but I quickly figured out that I can't eat much. I tried to finish a cup of Jello and got very nauseous. So I know it working. Sometimes it's mind over matter. Your mind could still be tricking you and not used to the changes. Stick on your path. You'll do great!!

Everyone has a different experience with the sleeve is what I have been seeing. I have not had any problems since being put back on regular food. I know I cannot eat as much, and I just eat until I am satisfied. I do have to contantly remind myself to eat slowly. I am now trying to stay away from carbs unless they come from fruits and veggies. I am going with the meat, dairy and veggie/fruits for now.

The weird thing is that I want hot sauce on everything I eat now...lol!

On the bright side, when I saw the topic title I was afraid someone's sleeve was leaking! I'm glad that's not the case. That to me would be the only "failure."

A VSG procedure results in reducing the capacity of your stomach. That's it. That's all it does. I have NEVER read of a true "failed" sleeve. Stalls are normal. Failing to meet goal is not uncommon. Gaining all your weight back can happen. But NONE of these so called failures are the result of your sleeve not doing what it's supposed to do. "failures" are thpically the result of poor choices, unrealistic expectations, certain medications that cause weight gain, and/or other medical conditions. However, if you can eat 4-6 cups of food in one sitting, then yes, you have a failed sleeve.

And, like cowgirljane mentioned, you can't possibly declare weight loss success or failure until you are at the very least a year or two out. And true success is really never reached....you not failing your sleeve is a challenge to be met every day for the rest of your life.

I actually could eat about 4 cups of food in a sitting if I really wanted to. Despite this, I have managed to maintain my 155 pound loss for the past 6 months. Like Kindle mentioned, it all boils down to food choices. When I noticed that my capacity had increased, I decided to eat more of a plant based diet. There is no guilt in eating 4 cups of spinach in one sitting. Those that claim that the sleeve failed them have in fact eaten "around their sleeve". They consume mostly slider foods and don't follow the Protein first rule.

Wow, that is high capacity for your sleeve! But good for you for finding a way to still make it work. That's what it's all about....taking responsibility for your choices and never stop trying! You are definitely an inspiration.

Everyone loses at different rates, so don't compare yourself to others. Hunger is still there. Stalls happen every few weeks. Keep focused on your new tool and the changes you're making.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
