Are all calcium citrates really gross?

Recommended Posts

So I know I'll have to take a lot of calcium citrate, my NUT said crunchy chewable. I've read everywhere that people hate this or that Calcium, but nowhere, which ones people like & keep calcium levels up. Vitamins also, anyone have any good suggestions?

I second the Bariatric Advantage chews. I've tried chocolate and raspberry and like them both; I'll buy lemon soon. I buy them off of Amazon; the price fluctuates but if you can get the 60-count bags for around $14 and free Prime shipping, I think that's pretty comparable or better than other places that don't have free shipping.

The only thing to worry about is that the expiration dates (at least from the ones I've bought) tend to be pretty short (a few months), but if you have to take a bunch per day (I take 4 per day), then you should be all right. In other words, I don't buy in bulk.

Thank you! Are the Bariatric Advantage chews chewy or crunchy? My Nutritionist said only take crunchy Vitamins. How are your Calcium levels now?

the chews are chewy. I don't know why they'd insist on crunchy Vitamins and supplements. I've never heard that. I know we're supposed to avoid gummies, but not chewy things like Bariatric Advantage chews. Interesting.

p.s. my Calcium levels are normal.

They are very much like Starburst friut chews in terms of size and consistency.

Some in the line are flavored like dessert candies and some are more fruity. I've tried them all and like each. I'd order a couple different flavors, though.....so you can have variety. 500mg 90ct $32 (30 day supply).

Thank you so much for this! She said because they don't absorb the same way as the crunchy ones, BUT your levels are good so that must not always be the case! From what everyone is saying ..and knowing myself..I need some of the Bariatric Advantage chews. I'm much more likely to take them all day if I'm not having a hard time getting them down. Thank you so much!

I was told by my Dr that gummies are fine. I keep reading that other doctors say not to take them. I believe it's all surgeon preference. Where they get their differences who knows but it seems none of them are the same from pre-op diets, post-op diets to vitamins...

@@Klolojadie Here's what I've been taking for almost 7 months - My Calcium Citrate/D3 is by Wellesse. It's a tasty liquid and you take a 1/2 oz. with Breakfast and dinner. I buy the 16 oz. bottle at my local Walmart for $6.97. If yours doesn't carry it, you can order it online from walmart.com. I order opurity Multivitamins (bypass and sleeve optimized) from the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury website. You just split them in half and take 1/2 (2 hours after your calcium) in the am and 1/2 (2 hours after your calcium) in the pm. It tastes like a berry flavored sweet tart - yum! The bottle contains a 90 day supply for $39.95 and the one I received just this week has an expiration date of 8/17! My 6 month post-op blood work came back with all levels spot-on so everything is working for me :D Best of luck choosing what's best for you!

That's what I was worried about with chews, that the absorption wouldn't be that great, I started with the bariatric advantage tablet chewable a and Multivitamins but I only made it two weeks with them, I couldn't hardly get them down and it made me not want to take them. Today I went to costco and got the Vitafusion women's Multivitamin Gummy 220 gummies for 8.99 and the Vitafusion Calcium 2 bottles of 100 gummies for 10.99. costco does have a version of the bariatric calcium chews, they are Kirkland brand and are chocolate or caramel sugar free chews, 180 for 11.99. Hope this helps!

Also after I can get to the 8 week post op and I can take caps and tabs I'll switch to those.

you could also check into Upcal D. It's a powdered calcium citrate that you can mix into food. It's kind of sweet, so I usually mix it into yogurt. Supposedly you can mix it into beverages, too, but it doesn't dissolve all that well - I have to keep shaking the drink before I take a swig....otherwise, the powder just collects on the bottom of my blender cup. I actually take calcium citrate in several forms - usually Upcal D in my morning yogurt, a couple of tablets at work (around lunch time), and a Bariatric Advantage chew or Calcet Creamy bite after dinner as my "dessert". I figure I'll absorb at least one of these forms....

Thank you all so much! Jay to know that there are many things or there working for others makes me feel so much better! I know myself, if something is yuck..I'll not take it and do myself more harm than good for sure. Now I'm looking looking forward to trying some of these.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
