Hi there @@Tirnanog, congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I was banded on this very day two years ago and it was the best decision. I love my band and feel great about my life now. There are a couple of links in my signature below that really helped me understand more about how the band works and how to work my band. Getting the appetite monster off of my back opened up so much else in my life. Good luck to you and keep us posted on how you are doing! I was very nervous as I had never been an overnight patient in the hospital before. Everything went beautifully and it was much easier than I thought it would be. I hate the dentist and would get another lapband in a heartbeat before a root canal, etc. I had pain medication that I did not need to take. Yes, there was discomfort, but I was just so excited. The walking really, really helped a lot. Do all you can now before the surgery and then afterwards you'll step right into it and not stop. Kicks the body into healing mode and helps everything heal properly. You are going to do beautifully.....Best Wishes!

Oh Bandista - your post was SO nice it made me cry...in a good way! (feeling mega emotional in the surgery run up!) Thanks so much and happy anniversary...I think you might be my lucky star! You have made me feel SO much better and very VERY positive.

Britabroad - so nice to have a band buddy xxx How are you feeling - I hope all has gone well and that your recovery is coming along nicely. I will definitely stay in touch. Good luck x

Not feeling too bad - bit sore and my shoulders were really hurting yesterday but much better today. I find standing and walking around really helps. Overall - no major pain or problems!

How are you feeling? I was very anxious in the run up to surgery and apparently this is common.

Hi Everyone - I've made it through!! and i'm still alive...in fact I feel this might just be where I really start living!

Band inserted on Saturday - I'm not gonna say it was easy - in fact the first day was a lot harder than I was prepared for - everyone is different I suppose. However I'm amazed how much i've improved in just 3 days I'm up and about now, but taking it easy.

Just sipping liquids so far, had some Tomato Soup last night - went down ok.

My surgeon put 3 ml in my band straight off so I'm dealing with some restriction already. I get pain if I take too big a mouthful or try to swallow to quickly - but hey....better get used to it! All normal I'm told!

How are you other November banders doing?

Great to hear everything went well and you are up and about. I'm now 6 days post op and really bored of the liquid diet! I don't have any Fluid in my band yet so also dealing with some hunger, but after the 3 weeks of liquid, I'm really just desperate to get onto the puréed stage and mix things up a bit!

One small side effect I've had is some heart flutters/random heart beats. I went to the doctors and he said its common after anesthesia and will most likely go away, but they will monitor just in case.

Counting the days until I can have my first fill!

I am having my band put in November 20th. I'm on day 7 of my pre op liquid diet and although I've gotten over the hunger and desire to chew I find it very hard to concentrate at work. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi I just got my band on the Nov 10/15. The surgery went realy well, I ended up having an asthma attack coming out of the anesthesia which cased me more discomfort in the chest muscles. The walking sure helped with the surgery pain. I have nothing in the band and I already feel the restriction, I cant drink Water like I used to. So I am learning to sip. Day four and the incision's don't hurt as much.

Hi November Banditas,

Glad to hear every one doing well.

Skinny 46 - sounds like you've been through the mill - hope you are OK

Britabroad - yes I'm looking forward to moving on fro liquid - albeit to sloppy food but hey it's progress!

Aies 477 not long now - Pre op diet is hard....I found myself lacking concentration and fantasizing about tastes and textures of food - completely involutarily!!

J

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
