I was sent home with a drain and was not ready after 1 week. I was out 3... but ready after 2. I still got tired and sometimes didn't make it the whole day through week 4 or 5 though.

Everyone is different and it depends on what kind of job you have.

I work from home. I did some work as soon as I got home from the hospital

My surgery is scheduled for a Friday, I plan on going back the following Tuesday.

My surgery is Monday and I planned to return to my desk job the following Monday. I'm not telling anyone so being tired or leaving early will be a bit weird.

I took 2 weeks, I'm a nurse and my job can be physically demanding @ times. I was ready to go back mentally, and for the most part physically as well. But now at a month out if I have a busy shift I am really fatigued. I don't seem to have the endurance yet that I'm used to.

Everyone knows I'm getting this done. So my work said they'd be really flexible and let me leave early and do work at home.

It all depends upon what type of work you do and how well you feel during the recovery.

Most people feel well enough to go back to work in 1 to 2 weeks. Many surgeons recommend 2 to 3 weeks.

Some return sooner but work less hours.

There is no one-fit-all answer. Only you can make that decision based upon knowing what your job entails, how you normally react to being sick or if you had other surgeries (ex. Are you sidelined with the flu or are you still up and about?), what your surgeon recommends based upon the outcome of the surgery, financial and other personal reasons, etc.

I'm a Preschool Teacher with 2 1/2 year olds and I am planing on taking 6 weeks just to be safe. If I decided to go back earlier it will be a bonus for my employer. My surgery is scheduled November 23rd and I'm scheduled to come back January 4th.

I work in the OR as a Surgical technologist that specializes in Orthopaedics and I'm taking 4 weeks off. I just can't see anyone being able to do that job after only 1 or 2 weeks post op. It's very physical with lifting heavy instrument trays and standing for long periods of time without access to fluids while scrubbed in. I wonder how I'll stay hydrated when I DO return to work.

My doctor said if I had a desk job it'd be 4 weeks, if it's physical it'd be 6-8 weeks. Its different for every person and doctor

I am actually trying to find a less stressful job now that my surgery is over. Also, one that will be closer to home so I can incorporate a workout schedule and not spend three hours in traffic each day. I'm working with my company to see if I can get something locally. So far I'm very optimistic about seeing positive results from my surgery and a few lifestyle changes.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
