Hello!

Like many of you, I have been overweight, obese, then morbidly obese for many years. Since around age 10 I began to put weight on. This year I turned 40 and so did my BMI.  I'm an RN, I know what this means for my health, my life expectancy and my overall wellbeing.  I decided to finally commit to making a change and for me VSG seemed my best option.  I had considered it when I was 30.  I wish I could travel back in time and shake some sense into that girl.  I remember at the time time thinking if I just tried harder with diet and exercise then I could achieve a healthy weight.  I never did.  So here I am, so happy to have a chance at a new, healthy life.

Being from Canada we have universal health care.  Sounds great doesn't it, not having to pay for life saving surgery.  Where I am from in Nova Scotia, the waiting list to get the surgery IF YOU QUALIFY is 10 years.  It's disgraceful and people are dying while waiting for their bariatric surgery.  For me with a borderline BMI and no co-morbidities I knew I would never qualify anyway and I certainly wasn't willing to waste another 10 years.

The clear choice for me was Mexico.  I did a lot of research and in the end selected Dr Guillermo Alverez as my surgeon.  I was entirely happy with my experiences with Dr A and his team both with pre-op consultations, my hospital stay and the post op follow up.  I'm recovering well at just a little over 1 month post op now.  I feel this surgery was the best decision I ever made.
