I know this is a crazy question but it is a concern. I have two cats. My one cat is long, fat, 17 lbs and has a lot of muscle to him. He thinks he owns my body. He jumps on me all the time, even in the middle of the night. I have a queen size bed for him to jump onto but he jumps on me every single time. The other day he jumped on my chest from my head board and and almost knocked the breath out of me.

I am concerned this may be a problem with the drain and even my pain. I don't know what to do because I can't close him off. If I shut my bedroom door, he can get to the litter box. Any time I try to shut any door in my apartment, even the bathroom door, he continually scratches on it until I open it and it is wood so I can't let him do that either.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Second, why in the world would you have a drain for a week? Is that common? No one I know has even gone home with a drain. Mine was pulled the next day. That said, I am no expert, so...

I have a 65 pound lapdog and had similar concerns. I, too, used a body pillow as buffer.

I haven't asked mys surgeon if I will need a drain however, I know two people personally who had drains (both hated them) and they had the same surgeon I have. I just assumed I would as well but I don't know how the surgeon determines if one is needed. So...I may not need one. I have my EGD scheduled on Monday so if see him I will ask him.

I can't tell you how much better my knee feels now that she's been laying on it for a while.

Therapy dog in so many ways. She's seen me through three surgeries and I've seen her through two of her own.

I've been close to all of our dogs......but this one is really special. I hope she lives a long and healthy life.

I just leave the pillow across my abdomen and all is well.

My first day home she jumped up in the recliner and stood there looking at me. I pulled my shirt up and showed her the new holes....she leaned in....leaned back.....looked up at me and raised her front left paw and dropped her head down.

She's stayed off my abdomen ever since. I keep the pillow there to safeguard against the younger dog....she's wide open and full of adventure and wouldn't know any better.

Plus.......that pillow feels great as it's warm and provides slight pressure.

She looks very content and comfortable.....pets are amazing

Kathy Krebs--I cannot image having a Great Dane to deal with after surgery!

I love people that love animals. I have 4 dogs, 2 big, 2 small. I worried too when I first got home, especially the big ones and they like to jump, 80lbs each. I just had to stay away from them for about 2 weeks, thank goodness my husband takes care of them, lets them in and out and feeds them. One of the smaller ones loves to lay on you and be cuddled, I just had to be careful. Cats too, but had 2, both got cancer, tried to save them, lots of money but didn't work, so said no more cats for now, besides one of the big ones would not do well with a cat. They are therapy for sure, have had dogs my whole life, they are family.

i also thought you were talking about the "downstairs" LOL!! I have asked that question but NO ONE WILL ANSWER ME!!! How does it end up? I mean if your cat is fat and you lose weight, does it hang? Will you need a "cat lift"?

thats what I have to deal with, X'2! King is on me and I have another Irish Setter Scarlett who is up my rear ALL THE TIME!

I have a large cat (14+ lbs of solid muscle) and he did jump right on my abdomen about four days after my surgery. I was napping in bed, on my back, and he was perched on the top of my (tall) headboard and just smashed down on me. It hurt -- but nothing was damaged. I would encourage you to keep your kitty around -- the comfort and joy that our pets bring us is a great balm during healing. Do remember though that you won't be able to pick him up for a while and you'll likely need someone else to change the kitty litter for the few weeks, due to lifting restrictions.

Luckily my dog has two great grandmothers who are willing to help me. See if a family member can take them for a while.

They even have a term for it FUPA..just reading up on it myself. Look that up to see things that can help ????

• Unfortunately I have no family close by. Even if I did I wouldn't let my mom keep them because she is not a cat person, at all!

Lol how cute! That dog doesn't want you to go anywhere! My cat sits on my head too and you would be surprised at the funky sounds that comes from his stomach!
