Recommended Posts

I just have to get this off my chest ... omgosh ...

I have a co-worker who ... soaking wet .. probably weighs 90 lbs ...

She just came to me and said she was getting 2 donuts this morning and will start her diet next week ...

OH PLEASE !

I said ... Why next week ? Why stop now?

She said ... I just don't know how to be stern with myself ...

I said ... it's really simple ... you say no and walk away ... easy peasy.

She laughed and said ...Yea on Monday I will ....

First of all ... why diet? You're too skinny as it is ...

Second ... GET YOUR FREAKING DONUT BREATH AWAY FROM ME!

OMGOSH !

LOL! Get your donut breath away from me! Too funny!

Yes, I know a few of those people too! I just want to say, please you don't know the meaning of the word diet!

I especially hated it when I weighed 310lbs and was trying to lose weight. I was as hungry as a bear and you are talking to me about your diet! Please!

I have a very skinny friend, like she hides her chicken legs she is so skinny kind of person. She has trouble eating enough (those dang cigarettes kill her appetite I think), BUT she always thinks she has a belly roll. she is my age, but never had kids and has never been overweight and she doesn't have a belly roll. The thing is, we are exposed to so much media that makes a 50 year old feel like a loser if they don't have stomach as flat as a skinny kid. Anyway, I love her dearly and one thing I have learned is she is probably less secure about her body even though by any reasonable persons standards its thinner/better than mine! So, I just let the "oh my god look at that belly roll" comments slide....

When I was young, I was thin. I could eat anything, anytime, anywhere and not gain weight. I use to go to a restaurant each day and order a large ice cream banana split. I remember all the elderly women in the restaurant staring at me with their jaws ajar, wondering how I was so thin. Well as the years wore on I did gain the weight and became obese. Sometimes I could feel the weight of their stares wanting revenge, wanting me to gain the weight. But it is all only just a feeling. The genetic makeup of my family (mother and brothers and sisters) is to be thin when young and obese when old.

I've experienced the same thing a lot, especially in the workplace. SOMETIMES I think skinny people say those things as a way to seek compliments from others or for others to tell them how skinny and tiny they are. I might have been tempted to tell her she needed to start the diet yesterday because she is a big fat cow!

I have a dear friend at work who I've told more than once that she is the weight that I aspire to be. She's perfect! I would never seek to lose another pound if I looked like her. And yet she recently underwent liposuction and is forever saying she needs to lose more weight. And she's quite serious.

I guess like us, as we lose weight, they just can't always *see* the person that others see.

everyone has their own story to tell. we all have different body issues. its' not THEIR fault (the skinny people) that we're fat. so what if they are skinny and talking about dieting? that doesn't affect us or the reason we got fat in the first place. we all have different genetics and issues. i never blame anyone for my fat except for me. and if my skinny friend doesn't get it i will set her straight but never belittle her own issues cuz as women god knows we all have them thanks to society's dismal view of the female form.

I started a new job and my desk was no where near the common area they put food and Snacks at, which I was SOO happy about with starting this journey. I went into work this week, and they had rearranged the entire office, and now the food is all less than 4 feet from my desk. I work in healthcare center that promotes healthy eating (a lot of my co-workers are of Asian decent, who naturally have smaller frames and figures), so you would think everyone would eat healthy on a daily basis. Nope. Everyday someone brings in a super delicious smelling, high carb snack and the fan in the area blows it directly towards my desk now. And they are constantly asking me to come join them, saying "You have GOT to try this malasada!" (this amazing looking Portuguese donut).

It's brutal.

Can I relate to that! Where I work 10 of my colleges and I all have offices around a central area (we call it a courtyard). There is a huge table in the middle where we have our impromptu meetings and such. Most of my co-workers are in their late 20s, a few in their early 30s, and me almost 50. They put loads of Cookies, candy (like jelly bellies or those little snickers), birthday cake, Bagels and cream cheese, etc. etc. on the table, and everyone eats the stuff. They are all skinny. For team lunches they order Italian (Pasta and lasagna mostly).or BBQ w/ mashed potatoes, etc. OMG, I absolutely hate it. It is like a torture chamber.

Or, a co-worker says that whatever happens, she hopes her daughters never get fat, because that would be the absolute worst thing to ever happen to anyone.

I'm so jealous of naturally thin people. They eat WAY worse than I do. They eat Whatever they want, how ever much they want, whenever they want and don't gain an ounce. And I've heard men say to them, I love women who eat a lot and stay tiny.

Aarrgghh... I even have friends who eat this way and NEVER exercise and are a size 2!! ????????????????????

Lucky them.

Oh well! Just have to make the best of our genes and the cards that we're dealt. I think having the surgery is a huge step in the right direction and I'm so excited and happy for All of us!! ????????????????????

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
