Hey!

I am a newbie here to posting. However, I have been reading several forums over a period of time and have been debating should I post. While majority on here is genuine, informative, and helpful, I notice that others are quite judgmental. Nonetheless, I decided to do so with hesitation; I may be an inspiration to others who may have shared the same feelings as myself.

I was recently approved on 9/2/2015 for the gastric sleeve surgery. (Yay Me!) I had my last supervised visit on 8/28/2015 and my nutritionist was very diligent with sending off her last report on 8/29/2015. I was so shocked of how fast I received my approval. (BTW, I have Oxford-United Health). I was overjoyed with various emotions. This was such a long journey for me--Ive debated for years. I attended several seminars at NYU Hospital about 8 years ago, but chickened out. However, I am a firm believer that everything happens in due time. So, October 12th, here I come...I am waiting patiently and nervously all at the same time.

Though, I've thoroughly researched post op and preop requirements, I am open to positive feedback or if there is anyone being sleeve around the same time as me.

@shakiki123....I am a newbie as well...read all the time....very little posting. You and I will share a SURGIVERSAY!!! I too am excited/nervous, just counting down the days.

My surgeon and surgery center is 3 hours away so I also have a nutritionist here that I am meeting with to help guide me through the pre/post op requirements as far as nutrition. I have read a TON, but feel like the post op portion doesn't always make sense to me. :) LOL Keep in touch!

@raylene76....yes we must stay in touch. I am curious to know what portion doesn't makes sense about postop. I have gathered that everyone has different diet regimen which is at discretion of their surgeon. However, I am looking forward in swapping meal ideas post op.

Nice to meet you! I'm glad that you took the step and decided to post. I haven't started a post of my own yet (still new) but I've def have been reading a lot of people's post and wishing them all well in this process. When you come across rude or judgmental people you have to just ignore them. With all of the nice and encouraging people on here you should be fine. I'm still in the pre-op process as well. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield for my insurance. I didn't need to do a 6 month diet because my BMI was over 50 at my initial weigh in. The insurance specialist through my program told me that once I've completed all the appointments I will have no issues with the insurance. I've met all the requirements so far. So I should be getting my date for sometimes in October. I wish you all the best in your journey. Keep up all posted and good luck!

I appreciate the encouraging words @@Jefferyc79 and @Shellbell619. I will definitely focus on the positive feed back.

@jefferc79 I also have a BMI higher than 50, but insurance still required the 6 month supervised visits. May I ask where you will be having your surgery? I am doing my surgery with Lenox Hill Bariatric Center NYC, surgeon Dr. Yatco.

Hi there! My surgery date is oct 12 as well! I had the 6 month diet lost about 30lbs we can all get thru this together! I'm pretty nervous still dealing everyday mentally with food decisions and exercise. I got sidetracked this summer with melanoma surgery and removing lymph nodes. Trying to get back on track and get motivated for the next month.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
