More energy or less energy / fatigue after sleeve

Recommended Posts

So I have finally decided to go for the sleeve surgery. But I have so many questions so happy to have found this group of people :-)

Currently I am so very tired, have no energy, depressed and fatigued. It's probably a combination of carrying too much weight, being depressed about a lifetime of not being able to lose weight, and thyroid problems.

My question to you is once you have lost the weight do you feel more energy or do you feel less energy because you are eating so little and possibly not getting enough nutrients? I seem to read differences of experience and wondering specifically what your experience is with energy levels once you have lost most of your excess weight.

I had a lot of fatigue before my surgery too. Honestly, it's worse afterwards for at least a little while 2-4weeks for me). I joined the gym at 7 weeks out because I finally found I had the energy to do so. I'm 9 weeks postop now. I still nap on weekends and typically and I'm bed by 9, but in that first month there were a lot of times I was going to bed as soon as I got home from work--around 6:30pm.

I had very little energy before surgery and I agree it was from carrying extra weight and also the co-morbidities of diabetes and hbp. Initially after surgery, I had low energy for about 4-6 weeks bu that was just recovery from surgery. Now I have tons of energy and it is great!!

I had energy before surgury but a lot of pain. Feet back hips etc. 5 weeks after I have no energy, I was pain free then went back to work. Everything hurts again. I am hoping this is just lack of activity during recuperating and I will return to pain free and filled with energy.

Not trying to scare you but everyone is different.

The first month or so you're still recovering, so you're not ready to hit the marathon circuit. I'd say about 6 weeks or 2 months post-op I felt like someone had turned me into the energizer bunny. And the energy has just grown ever since. (I'm a year post-op.)

Get ready to feel better soon!

I had little energy & lots of pain (previous injury) before surgery. I was also saddled with several co-morbidities that only added to my lack of energy. The first 2-3 weeks after surgery I tired easily & would nap after busy days. But by week 4 I started to notice an increase. I am now 3 1/2 months post-op. I recently walked my first 5K & finished in 49.16 minutes. I walk 3-5 miles a day. My want to do things has increased tremendously and my pain is almost non-existent. Best. Decision. EVER!

I was totally exhausted for a full month after surgery. Once I started on regular food and got rid of 7 medications, my energy picked up a bit. I definitely move around more easily and joint pain is manageable.

I would say a good 90 days post surgery for me I felt less tired and more energy. Give yourself some time to heal and follow, follow, follow your doctor's plans to avoid any and all post surgery complications. If I could go back I would have definitely did 1 or two things differently to avoid all the issues I've had post surgery. Other than that everything else has been great. I'm still losing anywhere from 3 to 8lbs per week and I'm almost 9 months post surgery.

Soooo much more energy!!!!

First bit was rough, less energy. Two weeks out I felt like I couldn't even stand up in the shower!

But after hitting that wall it got better and better and six months out I was running and doing yoga and keeping up with my kids like I never had in my life! Ran my first full marathon in May and I couldn't have done that when I was 20!

I had surgery aug 3., before surgery I worked out 14 hrs a week. Now 4 weeks post op-

I find it is taking forever to get my stamina back. I walk each day and have a physical job that I am back to, but I can not wait to be able to walk 3 miles again with out feeling like I am 100.

Feel like my muscles have gone away and I need to start over.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
