Removed Band After Goal Weight?

Recommended Posts

Bjean, I was just thinking this hasn't been around THAT long and it's a little scary having something 'foreign' in your body, so I was thinking along the lines of losing the weight and having it taken out. Just thinking long-term risks. I'm seesawing back and forth. On the one hand people get surgeries all the time, get pacemakers and all kinds of things put inside their body and they're fine. Then on the other hand ... oh, just putting thoughts out there, I guess
Linda

right before surgery, i was actually afraid of having something "foreign" too... but then i remembered that since my early 20s, I've had a steel plate and nine screws in my arm- and my body doesn't seem to mind!

I don't know of anybody who has done that... probably because one could achieve the same thing by having the Fluid removed without the risk of surgery. I've sort of experienced life as a non-Bandster for a long-time... longer than I've been filled and Banded, actually. In my first 18 months of being Banded, I lost 95 pounds. Then I became pregnant.... three times! Each time I've tried to fill after the pregnancy, the Band hasn't worked the same. So I've had to be unfilled again. Up until the start of my third pregnancy, I had maintained a loss of 60-65 pounds of the 95. It's the first time in my life I've ever maintained any weight loss for more than a day. Seriously. I was not one of those people who lost 100 pounds and gained it back. I was the person who never loss more than 7 pounds to begin with... and always gained it back + 10.

I just had my third baby... so we'll see how my final attempt at a refill goes in about 6 weeks. I can't imagine not having a tool to use... so I'm looking into a VSG should I need a revision. I really wish the Band worked as promised, however... as I really don't want to go through surgery again. It's such a different decision when one is single vs. when one has three little people to care for.

I would like to know how long it took you to get to 140lbs? I am trying to to lose about 60 to 70lbs. I am currently 210lbs now and I haven't even started my process of the LB. My doctor just approved me for it so he referred me to the LB dept @ Kaiser I am so anxious. Thank you "L"

I asked my Dr about removing the band when at goal. He just looked at me and asked me if I had ever dieted before. Of course I said yes. He then asked if I had ever failed. Well, duh!

I then got the point that this isn't a fad that is just there until I am skinny, it is a tool for the rest of my life! I would never ever have it removed. I am even wondering what happens to it after a TT. I don't want it out....ever!

I really appreciate your comments. I think you are right on everything! I am going to be banded on 8/13 but I have struggled with weight my whole life and wanting to remove the band is indicative of not wanting to part with the food. Great comments!

I agree, I now see the band as a bigger security blanket than food! That is what it takes I believe to let go of food as a friend. Good luck to all of you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
