September Gastric Bypass Peeps

Recommended Posts

What Protein supplies are my September friends sticking up on?

I bought some Syntrax nectar Isopure. I am clearing out a kitchen cabinet that will be "mine". I don't want to get my Protein and such from the same place cabinet that has poptarts and such.

I just ordered some Popsicle molds and sugar free Torani syrup....Pinterest has lots of great ideas for Protein Drink recipes.

Interesting. I am using premiere Protein from costco, but I also bought Isopure in case my lactose intolerance becomes worse after surgery.

Hi Toasty,

I am going for my revision to GB on September 4th. I have ordered all liquid Calcium and B's. I also have purchased the Bariatric Advantage multi with high AEDK which are chewable. I drink Premier Protein now but I think the first few weeks after surgery they will be too thick.

I just purchased Protein Drinks from Ideal Protein. They come in all different flavours and have 18grams of protein per serving.

I just got the call that my surgery was approved in less than 24 hrs and my date is Sept 28th. They told me to try to loose 5 pounds before. They did not give me the total liquid diet like I have read about. I am supposed to substitute 2 meals a day for Protein drinks. Anyone else in the 28th?

Yay! So excited for you! I got mine a year and a half ago. Best thing I ever did for myself.

I told a couple of people here already, I got home from the hospital yesterday afternoon, and everything is going very well. My first day after surgery, when I got my first sip of Water, they gave me a whole handful of medications I had to take, along with two "horse pills" (potassium). Ugh! I am certain that set me back at least half a day, those pills just seemed to sit in my pouch all day. Even the smallest sips of Water hurt.

By the second day, though, I was able to sip water without problems, and even ate a little chicken broth and Jello. It is funny how proud I was of myself for eating the chicken broth and jello! :) Later that day, they packed me up and sent me home.

This morning I was able to finally have a Premier Protein shake. I completed the whole shake (11oz) in about half-an-hour. Now I am just sipping my water. I have to keep reminding myself only a small sip; if I accidentally take a mouthful, my pouch gives me a pain.

My pain level has been really manageable. I am still on Norco, but only about 15ml each dose, and I expect that by tomorrow I will be moving to Tylenol.

So, was it worth it? Totally! I am very excited, and positive, about things moving forward. I am certain that in a few days things will be even better, and I will be eating (well, drinking :) ) well.

I have been walking quite a bit. I have set a goal for myself for today of 1500 steps. We'll see how I do. Slow and steady wins the race.

@@toasty I am sooo glad to hear that you are doing well! I went in the day before you and had you on my mind a few times the day after.

I can't believe they made you swallow anything bigger than a pea! I was under VERY strict orders to make sure whatever I was taking could fit through a straw. It's been kind of a pain because even my pain pill needs to be "cut up."

It really does get better everyday. I don't have a lot of pain other than where my left incision was made. I just know that is par for the course and I should just deal.

Keep us posted! We will be sharing a similar journey!

Sshield8, Hi! I'm doing better today than ever. I had to stay 5 days due to a small leak in my stomach and I was losing blood, so they stopped my blood thinner and a certain pain med and all was under control fairly quick. I'm really sore in the one spot kind of inside my main incision. I'm super shocked at how awesome my incisions are healing. My back is also hurting, it could be due to the fact I've been sleeping in my recliner. I tried my bed, I'm not ready to lay flat quite yet.

**warning not the most pleasant topic to follow**

I couldn't urinate in the hospital, I guess it had something to do with the anesthesia. So I had to be catheterized 3 times, 2 times they just drained my bladder then they decided to leave it in the rest of the time....well, I ended up with a UTI! Just what I needed, another pill to take. Also they gave me carnation SF Breakfast and I had diarrhea in the hospital:( I've been dealing with the opposite now that I am home.

I really struggle to get in all of my Protein, my 64 Oz Water, but I'm working on it.

Eating has been an adventure, everything I eat has gone down okay, unless I spit it out because I can't take the taste. Nothing tastes good to me anymore.

Well that sums up a bit about my story.

Oh, yes I also weighed myself when I got home, contrary to what I have heard to do, and I gained 3lbs. But I've been losing about a pound a day now.

How are you feeling? How was your experience?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
