I'm not from Houston but am here quite often to visit family. I'm doing my surgery with Dr. St. Laurent. Who are you using?

I live South of Houston. I'm using Dr. Audencio Alanis. I'm getting a revision from the band to sleeve. Right now I'm getting through insurance red tape, so no exact surgery date set yet, but tentatively it's looking like September 22nd, or 24th!

I live on the outskirts of east Houston. I am a self-pay sleever and am traveling to Dr. Alvarez in Piedra Negras.

I was just sleeved on Monday (8/10) by Dr. Alanis. I'd love to have a buddy! I actually live North of Houston but made the drive as he came highly recommended.

How has your first week gone since surgery?

Hi. I am in Southwest Houston. I am scheduled for surgery 9/8/2015 in San Antonio. I am going through the military for surgery.

It's gone great actually. Much better than I expected if I'm honest. The biggest issue I've had is from the gas pain. It's horrendous and even the pain meds don't help. My left shoulder feels like I have an ice pick stabbed through it and now and then someone decides to twist it. I've been walking like crazy, doing my breathing exercises, taking GasX, nothing helps. They say for most people this disappears on its own by Day 3. Not sure how I got (un)lucky. Other than that though, my energy is up, my incisions look good. I'm not sleeping because of the shoulder thing but I'm excited for the future!

Oh sorry to hear that. I've heard horror stories about the gas pain. Hoping I get the better end of the deal...and hope yours gets better soon.

I had my revision from band to sleeve on 8/10. The gas pain is no joke. I expected it as I remembered what I went thru with the band. This is worse. I just keep walking, breathing, and sipping as the pain meds MIGHT take the edge off.

I live in inner loop Houston and am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Yu 9/1. I am more nervous about making it through the pre-op diet without lashing out at my kids/husband/coworkers than I am about the surgery itself. I had not realized gas pain would be so severe. Glad to have a heads up.

Oh no for all the gas pain! I just found out Monday I have to get a hiatal hernia fixed, so now I'm extra nervous!

I had a hiatal hernia repair done as well. I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm actually surprised at how well I feel other than battling this gas pain. I really think "gas pain" isn't the right terminology at this point. It has to be some sort of phrenic nerve/diaphragm irritation. It is brutal though. I'm sitting here with heating pads on my shoulder and left diaphragm right now and I'm still hurting. My friend had the exact same surgeries with the same surgeon, facility, everything and she has been fantastic and pain free since Day 3 so you just never know.
