How to stop thinking about hunger on Pre-op

Recommended Posts

Ok, I admit it I've been overly confident in the lead up to the pre-op. I've done Optifast a number of times before and other shake diets, and I've managed up to 9 weeks previously.

So I thought no worries, this will be easy, a bit bummed out i'm on a 3 week as opposed to a 1 or 2 week pre-op which seems to be the norm, but easy I thought! I'm a pro dieter!

I don't know whats wrong with me, I'm on day 3 and cheated everyday - admittedly I started 2 days early as I like to start things on a Monday and not mid week (yeah i know I'm weird!) So technically I've cheated 1 day of my pre-op diet. I have to get this right starting from tomorrow but I just don't know whats wrong with me - the hunger is really getting to me and i ended up getting a big salad, and while it's not as bad as wolfing down pizza and cakes the sauces and sprinkle of cheese should really not have been there!!

I don't know if subconsciously my body knows that this is the end of eating the way I did and is making it harder to stick to than normal, I've wanted this surgery for years, done all my prep and research, i'm self pay and it's finally nearly here and I can't manage 1 day properly on the preop!

Has anyone got any tips to distract myself from temptation/hunger prangs(I work full time and have 3 young kids so not much time for hobbies :|) Or do I just need to suck it up buttercup??

:) Thanks in advance!

I think there aren't many of us who didn't cheat on the pre op after all we didn't get this way strictly eating fruits and Veggies once u have surgery u won't have a choice but to eat your Protein for the first few months you will only be able to eat a little bit at a time u will feel full and not deprived it will take time to work up to foods u ate before however choosing wisely will be up to you having an occasional treat is something to look forward too how occasional is also up to you the success or failure is up to u the amount of loss also mostly up to you if you really want to do this u must decide the changes are what u can live with cuz if we eat high calorie high fat high sugar foods we will gain weight or fail to lose its up to us the surgeon made our stomach smaller but they can't decide for us if we eat the pizza or grilled chicken we made the choice to have surgery now we must choose to eat right most of the time good luck to you I was scared to but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be

I am sending you strength, and please send me some in 2 weeks. I am very afraid of the pre op diet. I will tell you this, don't beat yourself up,its one day at a time. You had a salad, and that was a good choice. I hear from my clinic that if I am too hungry I can take a benefibre. Or a fibre pill. Add Some lemons to your Water, have some watermelon or cantelope. u will do good....we will do good. No sabbatoge for us, ok?

I am also on a 3 week diet and I thought I would struggle majorly, but I have not. I am also self-pay and I definitely don't like to waste money so that is also a little kick in the butt I need. I've not been hungry really but I think it has all been more psychological for me. I've not been a fan of the shakes but I have made myself get a couple down a day. But my doctor did send me a recipe for a veggie Soup that I am allowed to have a couple cups of a day and just that texture of those few veggies alone has been enough to trick my brain into thinking I have been "eating." The first day I did not have the veggies but I am also able to have egg drop Soup and the consistency and great taste of it put me more at ease and helped me feel fuller. I am not sure how strict your diet is exactly.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
