struggling with liquid diet (August 5th surgery)

Recommended Posts

Try whatever brand vanilla Protein and use that as your "base." Add fruit and almond milk or fruit juice and blend. Here are a few of my faves:

banana walnut- Protein Powder, frozen banana, almond milk, walnuts and one stevia packet- optional.

Peanut butter/banana- Protein powder, frozen banana, PB2 powder, almond milk, and one stevia packet-optional.

Tropical fruity: Protein powder, frozen mango, frozen pineapple, frozen Strawberries, orange or pineapple juice. *One stevia packet if the fruit is not sweet.*

We can't have fruits or juices or milk on the clear liquid diet.

My surgery is Aug 5th as well. Day 1 on the liquid diet for me and it was easy until i got home. Im thinking i will need to keep super busy at night until i get used to this. Good luck friends!

That's my hardest too cause I have to cook for my husband and son. On day 3 I found myself in the kitchen stuffing my face with pieces of bacon I had cooked up for my husband's blt. I felt horribly guilty afterwards and started panicking about my surgeon not performing the surgery. So trust me ladies, it's NOT worth it. Try your best to stick to the program. We are all in this together!

Can you have broth with GENEPRO (unflavored protein)? My surgeon requires Bariatrics Advantage shakes.< /p>

I have a GNC and a Vitamin Shoppe near me. Where's the best place to buy from? I will order online if I have to but I have been so busy at work that my pre-op diet has crept up on me and is now in 5 days.

I got mine from the store in my surgeon's office but I know GNC sells unflavored Protein. Check your pre-op plan to see if you're allowed broth.

I knew I would get sick of Protein shakes. I have bone broth or lamb broth from whole foods with unflavored Protein powder once or twice a day. The lamb broth is the most flavorful broth I have ever tasted. The Bone Broth does not have a lot of flavor but it does have 9 grams of protein, by the time I add my protein power to it, its over 30 grams of protein.

I purchase it at a local place and it is about $10 cheaper than GNC.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
