I work from 4 days a week and Monday's in the office. I'm having the surgery on Saturday. I'll take Monday/Tuesday off and work from home the rest of the week which is computer design. I hope it's enough time.

I also found out in Mexico they don't really opiates for any surgery you have so it's not just the clinics. If having an opiate or strong pain killer is important to you, you'll need to get a doctor here to prescribe some which I might do just in case.

That's right. I now remember the doctor telling me they don't prescribe controlled substances in Mexico.

Today is day 6 and I'm back at work. Feeling good. I think you will be good. Stay positive.

I just wanted to update you. I had my surgery and it went awesome. I was actually surprised how little pain I felt! Are you able to feel full yet? I'm on week 2 diet and I still have trouble telling if I'm full, sometimes burping right after eating makes it feel like I'm hungry again.

Awesome! I'm pretty well 100% back to normal. I'm 37 pounds down 5.5 weeks post op.

I haven't pushed myself too many times to know how full I actually am. I'm never hungry anymore. Biggest tip I can give would be to stay away from the carbs! Eating carbs will bring back the hunger.

What'd you think of the facilities and the whole experience?

So I had surgery in July. So I'm about 10 months out. I'm down 88 pounds. I passed my goal weight and I'm hovering around 181-185. I went through some phases where I was very emotional at times. But I read that's just the hormones in your fat being released and that's just part of it. I've pretty well leveled out and feel normal. I eat pretty much whatever I want now. I avoid old bad habits. Don't eat hardly anything that's fried or much bread. I have a couple of beers from time to time when I get together with my friends. I don't push it though. I've lost quite a bit of muscle mass. I need to work out more. I wish I would have been taking in more Protein Shakes and doing more push ups, sit ups, and lifting weights over the past 6 months. I've also had some hair thinning. I think that's due to lack of Protein. So drink/eat your daily protein! Super important. Vitamins are a must!

Now I'm just trying to maintain my current weight. I don't want to lose anymore. Sometimes I wish I would have asked them to do a half sleeve or make my stomach a bit larger than they typically do. But overall I'm very pleased and don't have any regrets.

Sounds all pretty standard which is a good thing. Just out of curiously how many beers can you get in during a single occasion? Also interesting to hear you wish they could offer doing a larger sleeve! After 10 months I have assumed that lots of people's sleeves have somewhat laxed and are mostly worried about having stretched it out. Thanks so much for your instant reply! Actually what got me into this thread was a search for Maytorena. Making sure I'll make it out alive (lol) and on a pain medicine IV post op.

I can probably drink 2-3 per hour just fine. I sip on them. I sometimes wish my sleeve would have stretched out already. I hate going out to eat with my family because every time I hear "that's all you're going to eat???" I want to drop kick them when they say that. I wish I could eat more so I would stop losing weight. I'm too skinny now I feel like.

Hope my thread gave you some good info. Don't be nervous about using Dr. M. LTVSG runs a good operation with a great staff.

2-3 per hour but I don't think I've had more than 6 total in a sitting.

Ok thanks sooooo much. It's weird that I just haven't been able to find much info on him but I guess it's really actually not given the amount of TJ bariatric surgeons not all get press on the web and add to that the many popular Ortiz, Kelly reviews and it gets anything on Dr.M tucked away.

I can relate. I couldn't find much on him either other than what I found on this site. Congrats on your surgery date. You will be fine.

Keep me updated. I'd like to hear about your experience and progress. Don't hesitate to ask any questions if you have any others.

OKCPaul:

Long time no talk! Sorry I haven't been frequenting this forum. I've been mostly on another weight loss forum. You made your goal weight!

I just this week made it to 170lbs. I'm no longer overweight, I'm wearing size 32 pants!

There actually is plenty to find on Dr. Jorge Maytorena. I would look him up, then you will see is full name has another word in it. Search for him by that. Longterm VSG, and JL Prado surgery center had all his surgeon registry numbers on file. I loved him because he was quiet and reserved. He wasn't full of hot air. I'm willing to tell anyone who needs about the experience. PM me and I'll get back to you this weekend.

Well yes there are reviews on him, I just thought they were sparse and a little buried, especially given the fact his price is so unbelievably reduced. Congrats on you too for reaching a size 32 :)

I have another question for you guys, if I go in on a Wednesday for surgery, approximately what time would you say I'll get discharged on Friday assuming everything goes normally? Again thanks so so much :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
