Post op & eating in public!

Recommended Posts

3.5 weeks post op and my sleeve is made of stainless steel titanium straight from the veins of Superman himself. No joke.

Damn thing doesn't reject anything. The only good thing is, I usually feel full quite quickly so I stop eating.

In reply to the straw comment, straws are the only way I can drink my fluids and my dr actually encourages their use.

Lets remember that all drs are different and they each have their own instructions; what works for me may not work for you...and that is totally ok :)

rrgood01 how far out are you that you ordered that? I'm almost 2 weeks post op and ready to start some solids. Soft solids of course. Just wondering if anyone has some good suggestions of soft foods to start out on? Thanks

Yeah I have not had any (knock on wood) issues with my stomach either. I am 11 days out of surgery and only cleared for soft Proteins, Beans, shakes, deli meat....but it's working and I am not that hungry. I just have to make my self eat so I get my Proteins in.

I honestly found the post op lifestyle to be easier than I expected. I think think the hardest part is going out to eat because I'm scared to get sick so I just take my own snack or food! I'm staring to get sick of that though!! Anyone else run into this problem?

yea I find going to a restaurant boring. Can't eat anything without my stomach hurting and feeling sick.

I eat out pretty easy now. I order grilled chicken or fish with avocado in Mexican restaurants. Also fish tacos (i don't eat tortillas )good if grilled. I always ask for take out plate and make 2 or 3 meals off the one meal. I like it because i dont have to worry about a few meals - I just prep them in small pyrex bowels and grab one on my way to work or when i get home from work. What's amazing is the grilled chicken plate was 10 dollars and i got 4 meals out of it. I only pick restuarants that have grilled chicken or fish on the menu which is almost everywhere. Being able to go out and be normal is key - I just don't overeat now.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
