Do You Eat like a "Skinny" Person?

Do you think your sleeve gives you the ability to eat portions like a thin, healthy person who is unsleeved normally eats?

Or....

Do you feel like no matter how far out from surgery you are, you will never eat like a person that hasn't been sleeved.

I hope I'm making sense lol! I may not be wording my question well. I haven't had surgery yet and I have this worry that I will always feel like a freak when it comes to eating around others.

It takes a lot of work. I'm guilty of grazing.

It's hard to over eat and if you do, no worries you will puke it back up.

Keep in mind that it is a complete life style change. You need to exercise and workout everyday and eat right in order to take the most advantage of your sleeve. Remember, its only a tool... you gotta pitch in some work too.

At almost 10 months out, I still can't eat very much, but much more than at 3 or 4 months out. So I would say my portions are still under what a normal person would eat. Even a skinny one. The difference also is WHAT I choose to eat.

I used to worry what people thought about how much (or in our case how little) I was eating. Truth is, nobody paid attention or even cared. Now I just do my thing and go about my business :)

How does a skinny person eat?? Because I know a few that eat like they should be obese. I say eat like a normal person, because a normal person knows when they're full or just being greedy, and some skinny people don't know the difference either, but they're just the lucky ones that don't gain weight. Must be nice!

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "eating like a skinny person" but I can explain how it works for me. I have found that dieting rules are so much simpler to follow since my band has been tight enough. I am guilty of grazing (not sure if that's a bad thing). What I love is that I can go out with friends, go to a wedding, or some other function and eat some of most of what is served including dessert. The difference is that I have only one or two spoons of some of the foods served including dessert - and don't feel like I cheated or that I did something terrible. If I see that my weight loss is slowing down more than I want I can track what I'm eating and follow a normal eating plan for me, and I will see the weight begin to move down again. To me this is the way skinny people eat. Moderation and Portion Control without feeling deprived. Good luck!

I was at a sales dinner last night. I sat next to a very nice woman, who happens to be very, very, trim. In addition to cheese and crackers, plus at least one glass of wine pre-dinner, then two glasses with dinner, she ate the (large) starter salad, cleaned her plate (8-10oz sirloin, asparagas, and onions), plus two rolls with butter. Then dessert, tiramisu with coffee. If that is eating like a thin person, no. I'll never be able to eat like that.

I have no idea how she normally eats, but I was suitably impressed - in an odd way.

I had some cheese and a few grapes before dinner. A few bites of salad. Did my best to estimate 4 oz of steak, and a had a few asparagas spears. I was more than done.

There was a time when I could have eaten that much food, but I would have felt like crap afterwards. I'm quite happy eating smaller meals. I still enjoy what I eat. I think that's important.

I agree with you that even though I am eating less I am much more satisfied with what I eat. For one each bite is being eaten in smaller pieces and needs to get chewed better than in my pre-banding days. So I savor my food. The emotions of feeling terrible for overeating and still not being satisfied is mostly gone. And for that I cannot be thankful enough!

Isn't it funny how we notice the huge amounts of food that people eat now? It's so funny how little food we actually need to live and even thrive. If most people only realized that. Including me pre surgery. But I would have thought I was starving to death :P

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.
