Did anyone get there lap band done in mexico?

I am considering it because it is sooo much cheaper. Has anyone else gone there to get it done? It just worries me to go away from home.:cry

mommy, I would guess that at least 40% of folks here went to Mexico. Use the search function at the top of the page, click on advanced search, then pull down the menu to say Titles only, type Mexico in the box above that pull down menu, you'll find loads of threads about going to Mexico. The one I have read over and over to stay away from is Betencourt.

Good Luck!

Me. I'd do the same thing again in a heartbeat. I went to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali.

Lots of docs are in Tijuana but just like the US, Mexico has cities that are not safe in the least and Tijuana is one of them. Actually, it's one of the most dangerous cities in the country. The Mexican Gov't has their army in TJ for that very reason.

I had it narrowed down to two doctors, Ortiz in Tijuana and Aceves in Mexicali (other side of Calexico, CA) and I chose Aceves for a few reasons but one was location. I can go out at night in the city walking, and it's totally safe.

I had surgery with Dr. Kuri in 2003. I was born in Mexico so the language and culture were not an issue. What will be an issue will be maintenance. I went back to TJ twice for fills but it was an all day thing and needed to find someone closer just for the simple fact that I'm a single parent and needed to be closer to my boys. I found Dr. McKeen in San Jose and he is great.

Mexico is not bad but make sure you have a local follow up doctor.

I went to Dr Valencia in Mexico. The hospital was better than any hospital I have seen in the U.S. Dr. Valencia does the surgery using only 4 tiny incisions. He also is a professor at UCLA. I would recomend him to anyone! His website is ww.alighterme.com and the phone number is 877-765-8446

I went to Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey. It was a great experience, and it was a great hospital. Even 3 years down the line, if I had it to do all over again, I'd do the same thing.

I did... way back in 2001. Went to Dr. Rumbaut and couldn't have had better care or a more experienced surgeon. The only thing you need to be aware of is after care... cost of fills. If you're close to Mexico, then most of the Mexican docs will do your fills for free or for a small fee for fluoro. If not, fill costs can add up.

I am have surgery in Monterrey as well. July 11th. Dr Arturo Rodriguez is doing my surgery. I live in Washington State and 2 doctors here said both Dr Rumbaut and Dr Rodriguez are very good and they do follow up care.

I have been nervous about the whole thing. But the patient coordinators, doctor and staff have been helpful. Word of mouth is another really good thing. I have 2 friends that had their surgery with the dr I am seeing.

Do your research...ask questions..don't be afraid... I have also learned that everyone responds different to the surgery.

Best wishes and God bless

I went to Dr. Raul Chapa in Monterrey, Mexico. I'm an RN so I can tell you this was the best experience ever. I agree that the hospital's are so much better (the ones we go to are private). I was treated like gold, put up in a beautiful hotel. My physician came to the hotel to see me both days. I spent the first night in the hosptial. Unbelievable care. I would go again. There wasn't a negative thing about it. I'm one month out and down 20 pounds. I get my first fill on Friday. I am using Fill Centers USA. They are a really good organization. I made followup arrangements with them even before I went to Mexico. I also recommend them highly. They were founded because a lady took her daughter to Mexico for the surgery and then had trouble finding a place to do fills in the US.

HI...

I flew to San Diego and Dr. Kuri's staff picked us up at the airport. Great experience, great cost and great results. I did have to pay a local doctor $2000 to take me as a Mexican Bandster but it still beats the local price of $18,000.

The hospital Dr. Kuri's uses is more like a resort hotel than a hospital.

Good Luck!!!

I was banded by Dr. Zapata in Monterrey Mexico. It was wonderful. Ready4Achange.com took care of everything. They pick you up from the airport, take you everywhere, and even bring you food afterwards. I had the best care in the hospital and Dr. Zapata was wonderful. I had better care in Mexico than I have had here!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
