New to site: band to sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've been on her for a few months but haven't really posted much but have read a whole lot.

My surgery date is this Thursday May 20th. I'll be getting the gastric sleeve revision. I got banded October 2012 & had little success. Lost about 25#'s initially & then nothing more.

I struggled with the band & never truly was able find the 'green spot'. I ended up getting to tight & had a good portion of the saline taken out. My surgeon's 'bedside manner' was horrible & I did not want to go back but I did. I ended up talking to a new younger surgeon & he told me I HAD to stay with the other asshat surgeon. I refused.

I continued to struggle with what I believe is port pain or possibly where I'm banded & decided to pursue the sleeve with another Bariatric center. I'm so dang glad I did!!!

My insurance denied me TWICE & the waiting game SUCKS but I know it will be worth it in the end.

I just got notified last week that I'm APPROVED... Stoked but a ball of nerves!!!

Excited for the journey ahead :)

I too am having revision from band to sleeve. May 28 is my date. My band was successful for 10 years. I lost 100 pounds. Last year I had a virus and was vomiting. My band slipped. They had to remove all the saline and I have now gained 87 lbs. I am ill with myself for gaining but I guess after being so restricted for so many years I kind of lost it. Good luck and keep us posted.

@@lexiemia I am near Jacksonville - good luck with the revision. I just had surgery 12 days ago to a sleeve. I contemplated the band for a bit but decided to go with my "gut" - which was the sleeve. No regrets.

@@Typhanee wish you the best of luck and hope this time you find your greenspot!

I was banded in December of 2012 and went from 275 to 255. I never got in the "green zone" and constantly suffered from overwhelming pain after I would fly (I travel for work). My surgeon later explained to me that the band tightens after flights due to the cabin pressure. I would be miserable for days... Sometimes longer depending on how much I would fly. I also would vomit and get horrible reflux from my band. In seeing a new surgeon I feel really good about my revision, and am down 12 out of 15 pounds required before surgery. My goal is to be 265 at surgery time.

Congratulations, I chose the sleeve because I didn't want anything left inside me - I am assuming that your new Dr will remove it? I bet he/she will be able to tell you what the assault did wrong!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
