Hello, I am 9 days post-op, and my first time posting...I have a Vitamin & Protein question...Does anyone else have problems taking Vitamins? I purchased Journey Bariatric and opurity Vitamins before surgery, both because they were manufactured for peeps like us. However, I am having a hard time getting them down...the Journey vits are six chewable multi and 4 Calcium (gag!) and the Opurity are 1 multi & 4 Calcium (better but still a lot). There has got to be something better, HELP?!

Also, being only 9 days out I am having a hard time getting 60 grams (surgeon recommendation) of protein...anyone else have this problem as well? I am trying...just need some words of encouragement!

You can request samples from several different companies of the vits. I chose Celebrate Vitamins. I had the SADI so I have lots to take. I don't mind the Calcium or the Iron but the multi is well, ewww. I pinch my nose and take a sip of Water when I take it.

Getting the Protein in at first is very hard. I'm 6 weeks out and there are days I struggle, because there are times that I'm just not hungry. You have to do the best you can. I played around a lot with mixing up Protein drinks, adding banana, vanilla extract, blueberries, almond milk, Peanut Butter. Also greek yogurt is high in Protein so that helps. I was not fond of adding Protein powder to my Soups to me it changed the consistency and flavor. Experiment with flavors it really helps. I had to have my shakes VERY cold to get them down. It still takes me close to 1.5-2 hours to finish an 11oz shake.

Soft foods help to increase your protein, fish/seafood is very high in protein as is ground turkey.

You will get there! Set a goal to get more in each day than the next.

Thank you so much for the advice and words of encouragement...as my tummy can tolerate more I will definitely experiment some more with shakes. I will look into ordering some samples as well. Thanks again!

I take the fusion Bariatric Complete Multivitamin. Only have to take (3) a day, spread out. The are chewable (start out solid, not gummy-like). They break down quickly in mouth, which helps to aid in absorption of the nutrients. I like the 'Orange Cream' flavor. Its funny, I start to chomp on them and they break down, and JUST when they might start to taste tart, it doesn't and the taste is quite OK. Note: My preference for these is that its only 3 pills a day vs. many several times a day.

Re Protein, I prefer Premier Protein. You can buy them at costco for only $23 for 18 bottles. I prefer to mix the vanilla and Choco in 50/50 mix, and it sort of tastes like Choco milk. Either by themselves, very strong ... but the 50/50 mix tastes quite ok.

Also, you can go to powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury.COM and they have very good liquid Protein mix solutions. One of the best is 'chicken Soup' flavor. You mix with warm Water, and it does taste like chicken Soup.

Stay away from Bariatric Advantage (IMHO). They are nasty, worse if you mix with milk. I had them for my 2-week pre-op. I did then and do now refer to them as 'Franken -Shakes' - LOL!

For Protein try Premier Protein shakes. They have 30 grams of Protein per 11 oz serving. If you can get 2 shakes down through the day you will be good on your protein intake for the day. I like the chocolate ones but by hubby prefers the vanilla or strawberry.

Okay, I will have to check that out! Three pills are way better than five...the ones I am chewing are okay, but they are quite large and seem like a meal all on their own.

I have been using the Unflavored and chocolate flavored Protein from unjury (my fave so far of the brands we have tried).

It just seems like a lot to get down in addition to the Water, I am hoping with time it gets easier!!! Thanks for the tips! ????

Thanks, Jendroppinglbs! I will check into those. I was drinking the Isopure drinks right after surgery which as 40 grams per 20 oz bottle, but tastes horrible. I will look into your suggestion and give it a try, thank you sooo much!!!

I have never tried the Isopure so I don't know how they compare to the Premier. I make sure that I drink at least one shake a day to give me a good jump start on my Protein intake. Not sure what you can eat but I also eat the light greek yogurt that is another 12 grams of Protein and tastes so yummy :)

I like the Premier Protein shakes. I ordered the Unjury sample pack so I can try out their different flavors. As for Vitamins, I ordered some chewable vitamins from Unjury. It's a once a day pill. Sorry I can't comment on the Unjury products as they haven't arrived yet. Others seems to like their products though.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
