Leg cramps - super painful!!

Recommended Posts

Thanks again for all your replies and suggestions! I've upped my Water intake and Calcium supplements and so far, it seems to have made a difference. I'm adding some extra potassium now too just to make sure they don't come back, lol -- anything to avoid those leg cramps again! :eyebrows:

Hi

Most definitely, as suggested by the other members -calcium -magnesium (incidentally, magnesium contibutes to alleviating carb cravings too) -potassium and plenty of Water.

However, Calcium must be supplemented by vitiman D to gain full benefit.

Concerning, the leg cramps - I used to suffer from this and it was agony.:D A Dr Ali a respected medical advisor in the UK's Daily Mail news paper explained fully why leg cramps occur and it is partly because of lack of oxygen in the muscles and calcium and Vit D help to produce this.

Hope your cramps have gone for good

Best wishes

I commented to someone else last week that my mother read in Dear Abby that putting a couple bars of soap under her fitted sheet in bed helps with leg cramps also. My mother has been doing this now for years and swears by it. I don't know what it is about the soap but MOM is a believer.
I know this sounds silly, but trust me it works though I don't know why. Put a bar of hotel soap between your sheet and mattress. It MUST be hotel soap, any kind will do. Put it around the area where your calves normally area. My dad tried this but he put it on his bedside table and it didn't work - LOL. I am pretty sure I read this in Ann Landers or Dear Abby several years ago, I tried it, I used to have the kind of cramps that wake you up screaming, but no more. Actually I wrote to Dear Abby and asked for a reprint of the article and they said it was not them. But anyway, try it. Good luck.

This is hilarious...but I looked it up (on Urban Legends Reference Pages) and they say that many people swear by this. Had never heard it before, but hey, it's s'thing to remember. And the article said it was in an Ann Landers column. Gotta love this site (LBT). I learn s'thing new everyday.

I have just had a go on a Power Plate trainer and my legs feel as though they have been given a new lease of life.

I did not have cramps when I went on the plate just a bit of stiffness after being to the gym.

The stiffness has disappeared,

This got me thinking that if I woke in the night with leg cramps and stood on the powerplate the cramps would not have a chance!!!

Expensive just for cramps £200 but it also exercises your bottom, legs . arms, everything.

Just thought I would let you all know.

Best wishes

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
