How often do people need to buy new clothes?

I'm going to be banded tomorrow and already, I've gone down one clothing size through walking and dieting prior; fortunately, I didn't throw out my smaller sizes; before hearing about the lapband, it was just wishful thinking. I've got clothes across 4 sizes: 16-22. Just wondering how often people have to purchase new clothing? I'm thinking this will be a fun thing, watching the sizes go down rather than up, up and up!:)

I bought tons and tons at first, although it took a good few months to go down a size, I had nothing in my wardrobe because I tended to shop to make myself feel better, believing this top or those pants would make me look fab, get them home, wear them once and hate them. So I'd have tantrums where I'd throw out my entire wardrobe, otherwise I too would have had clothes across a few sizes.

Now I've gotten to goal but would like to get lower in my healthy weight range, I havent needed to buy much very often but I am STILL shrinking ever so slowly even though my weight doesnt change. Three kilograms now and a pair of pants will become too big, but I dont think my upper body will change much, there's nothing left up there to lose.

I think I lost about 15 kilograms (40lb give or take) before I changed size at first though, it was very frustrating.

This isn't an exact answer to your question....but I noticed when I lost weight before that it took A LOT more weight to get out of the bigger sizes....I mean I'm being honest....I was SQUEEZING myself into size 20 when I really should have been a 22. It took a good 40 pounds before I went down a size. I think once you are into the smaller sizes....14, 12, 10 etc. that it may only take 10 lbs to go down a size.

Of course, I am now 290 (ish)....and a size 22. They fit comfortably. I'm sure I won't see a size 20 until I'm about 250 and then size 18 around 220.....

I too have clothes that run the gammit of sizes, but mostly 18 to 22.

I will not get banded probably until Oct (personal choice)...and I am hoping to lose 20-25 pre-banding.

I can tell you one thing....I will have no problems with spending the money on new clothes once I get down to my goal weight. As I go down in weight, I will have to buy new things - especially for work. I'm going to check out consignment (sp?) shops, etc. No need to spend a fortune for clothing I will hopefully shrink out of :biggrin1:

Hey why don't you all swap clothes? mad Idea but I'm sure there are women out there that bought a nice dress for xmas party or something wore it once and now its to big. I bought a load of clothes in Ny in march and they're going to be too big on me soon (decided on the band when i got home) so I'm going to give them too my mam. She's Delighted as the clothes are in mint condition as they're fairly new. Save people constantly buying new jeans they're growing out of in a couple of months.

i actually started buying shirts in XL (clearance rack) even before thinking about the surgery. i always put jackets on to cover it up. now that the process has begun, i will be able to wear them alone. i will wait until the fall and see what's going on then

I have a bunch of clothes in different sizes, 15/16(from le chateau) to a 22. I have a lot of size 18 pants and can't wait to get back down to that size to I can have lots of pants to choose from.

I can't wait till I get in a 14..then 12..then 10! But that's a looong way ahead

I was banded on Monday. Felt great in the hospital, spent the night and then came home on Tuesday afternoon. I've spent a lot of time dozing and then getting up to try to swallow some fluids. I don't believe that I have ever lost my appitite before. This is a totally different experience. I kind of like it. I'm looking forward to the full liquids, just so I can get some Protein in me. I called and asked the doctor if I could have just a few teaspoons of milk in order to take prednizone. The last two days were like torture; it felt like it was burning a hole in my stomach. I was given the go ahead and that made all of the difference. The rest of the time, I'm trying to get down some broth or tea. My energy is so low right now that even listening to books on tape is hard. I wasn't expecting that. I know all of this will pass and that it will have been the best thing I could have done for myself.

It depends on what you already have, how you have to dress for work, your social life, how hard you are on clothes, what your idea of a sufficient wardrobe is, etc. My husband has a lot more clothing than I do, for example. He always has. I think thats funny. Before he would say, maybe you should go shopping, You don't seem to have enough of X, and I would say, no, I don't need any more. I have plenty! I just bought a new outfit the other month or the month before that! I need to do laundry now that I'm out of clothes to wear. I mean, honestly, the man has so many jeans. A good ten pairs I would bet, at the top of my head. And that is just the jeans. I have five pairs of trousers, including jeans, a nice pair of black trousers, and some olive colored cargos. Its plenty. When they all actually fit I felt decadent that I had so much to choose from (plus I have three skirts as well). But then I've needed to dress professionally yet. I was an undergrad who worked as a babysitter. Than I worked from home. And now that I'm in grad school and still haven't found an Assistantship, nobody cares what my clothes look like. Granted, he is in the IT profession where jeans and a polo shirt is just fine, and nobody cares much where he works. But it depends. My goodwill shop doesn't have much nice clothes, especially in my sizes. Ebay has some good finds. There are some clothes swapping sites-- I'm always skeptical myself. There is always freecycle to try to get stuff and to give stuff away. Clearance and coupons. And just a couple outfits if you are loosing at a good clip. Saftey pins, fashion tape, a sewing machine, etc. can all help.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.
