Drinking and eating at same time- Do you wait 30 minutes?

Recommended Posts

30 minutes before and after food before you can have liquids?

@@lynneanne

IMO Water rules are very important to follow

my nut told me to stop drinking 15-30 minutes before i eat

do not drink for 45-60 minutes after i eat :(

do not drink while i eat :(

always drink at least 64 oz H20 a day

analogy concerning gumbo Soup.....

i asked NUT if i could have Cereal

nut said i could with a teeeeeny bit of milk on top

having Cereal w/milk is like having Soup with gumbo

or like drinking while you are eating

my first week post-op my husband had found a bunch of "sweetheart" pills :)

he would "serve" ;) me Mrs. Grass chicken Soup (broth)

it has a pkg of noodles in a small bag which he omitted

one time by accident he put the noodles in

i ate it with out thinking

not a good idea!!!

being a newbie it is essential you follow all the rules

after that you must continue to follow the rules, and continue and.......... ;)

i am 3.5 years PO (2.5 years GOAL)

i wait 30-45 minutes after i eat before i drink

i don't eat for 15 minutes after i drink

i "might" have a couple of sips of Water while i am eating :o

i do have cereal w/milk once a week

i'm not perfect...welllll actually :D

That is my story and i'm sticking to it!!!

good luck in sleeveland :)

I was originally told by the nurses, literature and nutritionist to wait 30 minutes before and 1hour after eating before drinking (it was permissible to take a little sip of Water if the food was a little dry to help swallow the food, but I never had to take sips).

About 7 months post surgery, the nutritionist informed me I can change this to 15-30 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating.

It isn't that important to me to have a drink with my meal at the expense of making a slurry, washing the food through faster so that I don't feel full and end up eating more or sooner.

I also have 2 cups of regular coffee a day (GASP!).

There have been a couple of instances where I've tried something too spicy or dry and HAD to get a drink to get it down, but I stick to small sips. I'm honestly not all that worried about it flushing the food through too fast, but it'll make everything come right back up. That's no fun!

To my knowledge, everyone's doctor told them to wait 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating before you drink anything. This is designed to ensure the liquid you are drinking does not wash the food through your stomach quickly, which would then allow you to eat more. Eating and drinking at the same time won't hurt you as long as you are paying attention to how much you're eating. If you just happily much away while sipping Fluid, you'll certainly consume more and your sleeve will be less effective.

As a note, that is one of the rules I never followed. I don't do dry mouth and eating. My opinion is that life is to be enjoyed and if I have to sit through every meal with a dry mouth for the rest of my life, there is no fun in that. I am very cognizant of how much I eat and I drink with every meal. I have not had the experience where I eat too much because I happen to drink at the same time and I am way happier eating my few bites of food when I can drink at the same time.

Amen! I take small sips due to I have swallowing issues sometimes with my neurological disease.

I do 30 mins before & after, so that i have room to eat and that food doesn't get flushed out of my tummy too soon...seems to work well, more seems overkill

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
