I was 92kg (my own doing, I ate a lot 2 weeks before surgery) with a BMI of 31-32.

I had no problems with my blood pressure or cholesterol. The reason for surgery that was stated in my forms were polycystic ovarian syndrome and knee problems.

My insurance covered it, but I think my doctor did some sorcery to make them accept it. The wording in the form saying I was 104kg at my biggest and not mentioning my current weight, etc,

I'm also a month out from WLS, my weight loss is slow. one day I'll be down a lb. , the next up 1/2 lb. Then no change for 2 days and then down a lb. 1/2. i just began pureed food. The liquid phase for 6 weeks about did me in.2 weeks before and 4 weeks after, it was murder, especially because after surgery my taste changed drastically. Sweet foods are horrible to me. I could barely stomach shakes of any kind.Soups were a little better, but I'm so glad that is over. I've lost 52 so far, 40 before surgery and 12 since, still have 30 to go, but steady progress. I was especially worried since I'm soon to be 66. I figured that it wouln't be fast, I've been dieting since the beginning of oct.2015 and it is now sept.2016.My surgeon told me to begin exercising and I'm on my 2nd week of exercise. This is a hugh life style change, but I'm determined to get healthy. I already was able to stop my blood pressure medication. I wish all of you luck on this journey. It is hard , but it will be worth it.

@@lowbmi65 next Thursday! Congrats! It's totally normal to be apprehensive leading up to surgery, and excited at the same time.

I was sleeved on August 11 and am halfway to my goal of losing 60 pounds. Even if I were down just a few pounds I would consider it a success, as I was previously just gaining relentlessly and rapidly. I am grateful every day for my sleeve and for the new options and new sense of control and possibility it has helped me feel about my body and health. Good luck to you!

Thanks! There are many positive low bmi stories -- @@LowBMISleever is astonishing both in terms of her weight loss and fitness -- it's just that since there are fewer of us, you don't hear about them.

I get excited for anyone on this "journey," but have a particular soft spot for people whose experiences feel familiar (a natural tendency to be sure!), or feel like ones I can identify closely with. That's not always people in a similar BMI/weight range to mine -- I feel an affinity with other people who hate certain artificial sweeteners! But I love seeing this thread move. It's an extra motivator and and extra reminder that we all have cheerleaders and we can all be them, too. I'll skip the corny outfit and pom poms though.

I've heard that the lower the BMI the slower you will lose after surgery and the weight doesn't "fall off" like it does for people with a BMI of 40 or more. Good luck!

this will be great for me because I don't want to loose anymore than 50lbs so hopefully it false off slow and I'm able tone up fast

Hi, I was wondering how you are doing towards your goal, as I'm just trying to lose 50lbs and was wondering how long that might take. Also whether I will get loose skin. Thanks for your update.

@@hats123 Welcome! Anyone who finds support here is always welcome. Fluids can be difficult. I'm 14 months out and still have to remind myself to drink. Don't let anyone other than yourself pick your goal. I thought I'd be thrilled to get to 160, but with just sticking with the plan (mostly), I got down to my fantasy weight of 135. The last 2 pounds took months to come off. Now I'm happily in maintenance and if my body chooses to lose five more, I'd be ok with that too ( I'm 5'6", 54 years old, started at 200 pounds when sleeved in June 2015). Make your own goals and sleeve on!

Generally speaking (since everybody is different I put the disclaimer in there lol): For lower BMI expect 1-3 lbs a week weight loss. You'll be eating usually 600-800 calories + exercise so although it won't be 20 lbs/wk hehe, it'll be healthy and rewarding.

For me loose skin is a problem, but I'll be 66 this month so I'm not surprised. I just started solid food and I was sleeved Aug.12. I lose slowly, but that is fine as long as it doesn't come back. I just got back from a trip to Amish country and I was so happy to have lost 3 lbs. Usually I gain 5 lbs, with all the good food.I believe that losing slowly probably insures that new habits have more time to become established. Good luck on this journry.

@@lowbmi65 I have slightly loose skin on my belly so I'd never wear a bikini again, but at 54 I shouldn't anyways. In to my 30's always had a tight flat belly, so it's kind of disappointing, but I'll get over it. Everything else looks pretty good.

I lost a whopping 11 lbs in the first 11 days and then nothing for the last 5 days. I'm still on soft food. How many calories should I be aiming for ? Is it normal to stall in the early days ? I'm worried that even the sleeve might not work for my sluggish metabolism Thx

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
