Thanks y'all for the response. Since I am self pay and haven't had to take all the classes required by insurance , I feel

I still

Have questions. How do people actually gain weight after this? I mean you can only eat so much right? And I keep reading about not eating many carbs and how you have to diet just as hard after the sleeve .... But if you can only eat so much after surgery how do people gain it back??

Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question

Anyone with a lower-ish BMI been sleeved? I'm at BMI 32 now and have been approved due to co morbidities (high Bp and DM). Just curious to here other stories of lower BMI folks!?

I had my surgery on July 8, 2016. My bmi was 31. I've lost 17lbs this first week. I'm 44, seems harder to lose weight the older we get. I also paid for it out of pocket rather than try insurance. I didn't tell anyone either except my sister and husband.

@@tenseintexas It is a lot easier to eat more when you're six to 12 months post surgery. Old habits don't die with the surgery. If you're a grazer, you can consume excess calories. If you eat slider foods, you can gain weight. I'm a sugar addict. It didn't go away. I could eat ice cream daily and it doesn't fill me up. So even if I eat perfectly each day, but indulge in sweets, chips, crackers, or other slider foods a little each day, I gain weight. I've been able--this far--to keep my weight within 1-2 pounds by eating perfectly 80% of the time and exercising vigorously. Losing weight happens in the kitchen, maintaining mostly happens with exercise.

Those of you who have done this, what do you take for Vitamin supplements? Do you take a multi, or different ones at different times of day? I am taking a multi but think it might be better to take different supplements morning and evening in order to enhance absorption. Thoughts?

I take liquid multis. Great absorption because they don't have to melt (I don't pee them out). Used them from day one and they have Biotin. I never lost hair either (I'm not sure if a low BMI helps in this regard). A lot cheaper than buying separate Vitamins.

Do you mind sharing the brand and what you take?

So happy to have seen these posts. I am 65 and had a BMI ot 37 and hypertension along with arthritis. I've dieted on and off for 40 years and after 60 it is significantly harder to lose weight. my insurance requires 6 months of bariatrically supervised dieting before surgery. I've lost 32 lbs, but none for the last 8 weeks. My co-workers think I should just be happy where I am now! 175 lbs at 5 feet tall is not fine! I've already had both knees replaced so I know it is important to get the excess lbs. off. Thank you for the encouragememt.

I think I'm in the buyer's remorse stage. I keep wondering if I've shortened my lifespan. What if I would have lived to 78 and been somewhat healthy.... I was motivated to get this because of my inability to maintain healthy weight, but also high BP and pre diabetic... Both parents have heart disease and are obese but are in their 70s. Someone please tell me I've invested wisely!

what's making you feel that way? are you making sure that the small portions you're eating are healthy food? sometimes when i go a week or so eating crap i feel that way - like i'm not healthy even though i've lost a lot of weight. but it really can be easily turned around by some veggies ;)

@triplethreat. We've all been there! One day you'll reread this post and smile. You may have "gotten" to 78 without the surgery, but that doesn't mean you'd be healthy or even truly living. I'm not sure where you started or where you're at now, but the level of health and energy I have now have made it all worth it. I was 53 and had a BMI of 33 when I was sleeved. High blood pressure, cholesterol, sleep apnea on a 200 pound body was eventually going to take its toll. I'm 54.and one year out now with a BMI of 23! I run or hike almost daily, wear cute clothes and am happier than ever. I don't obsess about my weight anymore, so I have time to live!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
