Some of you may have seen a post I made about my daughter having severe nausea Day 2. She is now on day 14 and the nausea has not gone away. This is not a slight queasy feeling, this is horrible nausea to the point of carrying around a vomit bag. It gets worse when she drinks and she has not been able to tolerate much liquid and definitely not any full liquids. Yesterday, she started vomiting and again at 4am today. It is mostly dry heaving since she is only drinking Clear Liquids.

She is taking Prilosec, Zofran and Phenergan for this and nothing seems to work. I've called the doctor numerous times and she's going in for her post op today. She's seriously depressed thinking this is how she is going to feel the rest of her life.

Poor girl. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. I really hope her surgeon will be able to quickly figure out why she is having such a rough time and how to fix it.

My experiences with nausea and vomiting are they create a vicious cycle. I had problems with both of my pregnancies and ended up on a Zofran pump for about 4 months with my second pregnancy. I know can empathize with how she must be feeling. Once you start with the nausea ad vomiting it keeps getting worse unless you can get ahead of the cycle and stop it. She may want to ask the surgeon if she can be admitted to the hospital for fluids and IV medications to break the nausea and vomiting cycle. If the cycle can be broken in the hospital and she can catch up on fluids and nutrients through an IV, she may feel so much better in a short amount of time. Unfortunately, being severely dehydrated or malnourished can cause nausea and vomiting in some people. It may continue indefinitely until she is able to catch up on her fluids and nutrients. If her surgeon's office won't admit her for IV fluids, I suggest contacting her primary care. She has been sick for too long.

Is she able to sip pedialyte? I suggest trying it whatever temperature you can until she finds the temperature that is the least offensive. The smallest of sips at a time may be the only way to get it in and keep it in even if it makes the nausea flare. I mix it half & half with apple juice and taking a sip only enough to barely wet her mouth at a time (about 1/4 tsp) and do it every 3-5 minutes. It will help her to get some of the electrolytes she is losing and the amount is small enough there won't be any measurable liquid in her stomach to vomit.

Please keep us updated as to what her doctor says and I sincerely hope she feels better soon. She is a strong woman with a strong mom to support her. Be her advocate and push her medical team for treatment if they need prodding.

She's been in the ER twice for this in the past two weeks and they rehydrated her with IV fluids. She felt better for a short time after each. But then it would just come back again. It's really wearing her down. She's so young for this too but all of her doctors and specialists agreed this surgery would be great for her.

She's sipping Propel which has electrolytes, I'll check to see if Pedialyte has more than Propel. I don't hold out alot of hope with the doctor. His MA has been a bit harsh about all of this. But, I will still push for SOMETHING to help her.

I wonder if the doctor can give her the Transderm scop. I had that on for 3 days after the surgery and it really did help. just a suggestion. I am not a nurse or a doctor. I was also given a wristband that sent an electric shock on my wrist and still have it. I can send it to you to try if you think that might work. I know they sell the bands over the counter that are just wrist bands that apply accupressure to the wrist. It is supposed to help with nausea. let me know. thanks

No, she didn't have a transderm scop. Hmm interesting about the bracelet. I'll look into that more!

Is your daughter doing any better?

I'm 6 weeks post open and have been dry heaving along with nausea and no prescriptions are helping.

Hi, I'm 30 y/o and a little over 3 weeks postop. I've been dealing with the same issue... I've gotten to the point where I cry everyday because the constant nausea is affecting my every day life... I haven't tried it yet, but I'm too the point where I'm looking into homeopathic measures, like acupuncture or a chiropractor. I'm giving it one more week, then I'm going to try one or all of the above. When I messaged my NP this was here response: "Some patients battle nausea after surgery in the first several weeks and then the day comes when they wake up and it is simply gone." Honestly...didn't make me feel much better, because I'm still waiting for that day... I'll for sure add your daughter to my prayers, I'm asking that God will provide healing to those dealing with this issue.

My brother had the sleeve surgery on May 4th, followed by uncontrollable vomiting. An ER visit found gallstones and he had his gallbladder removed at 2 weeks post-op. Vomiting remained and still remains after 4 ER visits (blood work, endoscopy, upper GI test, CT scan - stomach lining is inflamed and his pancreatic enzymes are high). No one seems to be able to help him. 6 weeks ago when he had surgery he was 320 lbs. He is at 250 lbs now and losing muscle mass. Losing 70 pounds in 6 weeks and being dehydrated/malnourished is really taking a toll on him mentally and physically. No one seems to be able to help him. He goes to the ER to basically keep his body from shutting down. I have seen him cry one time in my life and he called me bawling his eyes out because he is terrified. I don't know what else to do for him. I haven't found helpful information online. He isn't dealing with nausea...he eats or drinks something and just immediately throws up. He sat in an ER waiting room for 4 hours and filled up 2 barf bags and no one did anything. He is in the hospital now with 2 doctors working trying to figure out the problem and he is getting Vitamins through an IV. Doctor said something is wrong with him, they just don't know what it is yet.

This is the closest to his situation that I could find and I hope things have gotten better for your daughter! Best of luck to all of you!

Have they done a barium test to look for leaks or a stricture?
