Thanks everyone! Is there anyone from outside Ontario who has had the surgery done there? I'm from BC, so I won't be having my fills there.

There are plenty of use here that have been banded by the Dr.Coburn/Mumford clinic that are not from Ontario.

I am from Calgary & was banded by Dr. Coburn on Valentine's day. So far I can say that I have no regrets about the service & care that I recieved from them.

One thing to note that is really nice about the SWLC clinic is that they set up your fill providers for you. I am not sure where in BC you are, but I am sure that there fill providers near you.

IMHO, after care is the key to the band, and having them set that up for you is great.

I was done by Yau at TLBC. I feel that the care was very good but I think they could learn a lesson or two about communications with their out of town patients. I live in Toronto so I can go there anytime but many of his outside patients have trouble getting fills. I think it is fantastic that Dr. C is going to Alberta for whatever reason. He really seems like a great Doc. I don't believe Yau has anything like that in fact it has been said there is a lot of trouble for BC ers to get post op fills.

I talked to Dr.C on the phone the other night. He is making the trip out west to train some fill Dr.s in Victoria, Whitehorse and a couple of other places (dont quote me on those cities) and he is stopping in Calgary & I think Edmonton to see some of his patients.

I think it is great that he goes out to various parts of the country and he realizes that many of his patients are not from the TO area and are not able to make it back there for thier aftercare.

Hi: Donna D is correct. I am from North Vancouver. I did all my research and the three surgeons in BC are extremely busy and the wait list was long. I researched the two Doctors at TLBC. They are the pioneers who brought the band to Canada and the press on them was very good. The press suggested the local GP could do the fills after viewing a DVD. My GP said he would. So off I went and had the surgery. When the GP reneged, that is when I discovered that there are no fill clinics in BC and most GPs will not do the fill for any one of three reasons 1) not trained 2) exercise and diet the only way to go 3) no time. The TLBC did recommend a surgeon in Delta and he has agreed to take me on as a favor to Dr. Yau who trained him but make sure you have after care guaranteed or you will find yourself flying to Calgary or Toronto. I am assured by TLBC that they are in the process of setting up fill clinics across the country but it takes time. Doddie PS: I would still pick the TLBC as my clinic.

Thank you everyone for your help. I had my consultation with Dr. Mumford and am booked for the surgery July 12. His clinic says there is a nurse in Vancouver trained to do fills, so I'm not worried about that anymore.

Jodieleigh: Come to the Lions Gate Hospital Wednesday June 20th at 7:00 to 8:00 pm in North Vancouver. We are having our first "bandsters" support meeting. You can come and ask all the questions about your excitement, fears, gloomy thoughts, whatever and after the band surgery you can join us monthly every third Wednesday at the Lions Gate Hospital, Conference Room C. Will love to meet your Doddie

Hello Jodie,

I am also having my surgery with Dr. Mumford on July 12. I'm scheduled for 8am and I'll be staying at Heritage House as I'm travelling solo. What time are you booked for and are you staying at Heritage House also?

I started my pre-op diet today and I must say that the Optifast taste great! I just added espresso, Water & ice to the chocolate Optifast and made myself a Mocha Frescante.

Time to get myself to bed - chow for now ! - Corinna

Congrats to Corinna and Jodieleigh!!

I hope that you both have as good an experience as I did at the swlc. I was treated so well and right from the start I felt comfortable with making the decision to have the band done! Although I am still quite early on the banded side I know I made the right decision to get the band.

-=big smiles=- and yeah Optifast isn't all that bad! and try having the hellman's salad spray on your veggies, they are great!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
